Free Music Notes for The BeekeeperFree Music Review: Caress your ears Hit: 5 Stars
And let your mind find new rooms to live in.
Every Tori Amos CD I have bought has grown on me. Over the years Tori has been an ally to turn to.
This CD is no different. If you know her you can see where she has grown. If you have known her (music, that is) this will crystalize some of your life's moments as well.
Of course, Tori is not for everyone. With soar and sauntering vocals, the angelic chorals and probing lyrics she asks you to ride with her in her vehichle. You cant follow along in yours - the structure would be too complex for you to navigate
There is always one song in every CD that just can not listen to - more now than her earlier work. In Scarlett's Walk, I did not get "Don't make me come to Vegas". In this CD, there may actually be two of them - I wont say which, as I dont want to influence anyone. Everyone's taste is a little different.
That said, I already have many favorites. Two that may grab you immediately are "General Joy" and "Witness". The song "The Beekeeper" has a haunting quality to it.
As witht the rest of her CDs, I play this one, and am living in a different world.
Free Music Review: How can you rate a concept? Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, yes I am a BIG Tori fan but i think some of those lower reviews were way wrong! The album really didn't have and order to begin with, but I think it flows nicely and to hear her describe the songs, made me realize how much deeper she was going with this...I don't think you can rate a concept nor do i think you can really review art. Some people will get it, some people won't. That is the way music/art is. I personally think it is great! I like all the songs, I had heard most of the songs before the album came out so most of the songs weren't new to me,but now I have the lyrics to finish the journey! To the people rating less than 5 stars, you are rating a concept, someones idea, that you may not understand, but I know from experiance that once you try to undertand something you may enjoy it. I think this album shows a woman fully grown, with child and husband and the trials and tribulation with spirituality and deception. Finally growing into your own skin fully and accepting life for what it is. I suggest anyone who likes a puzzle, a story or likes reading more into what they hear, this album is just what you are looking for!
Free Music Review: Don't listen to the critics! Hit: 5 Stars
Tori Amos's new CD "The Beekeeper" is one of her best to date. What surprises me is how many lukewarm reviews I've read about it by the critics. The major complaint is that this album is not like her earlier work, characterized by much darker subject matter and musical arrangements. That is the most useless criticism I've ever heard! What makes this CD wonderful is that it IS different from her other work. I'm with Joni Mitchell who said, "Change is interesting. Staying the same is boring." Amos is constantly evolving as an artist, and with that, new sounds, subject matter, and musical styles are sure to arise. What's more is that "The Beekeeper" DOES in fact cover the dark subject matter that has made the singer/songwriter famous, including her recent brother's death ("Toast") and mother's failing health ("The Beekeeper"). If anything, what's so beautiful about this album is that it incorporates a more dynamic range of emotion than her previous works. I also like the stripped down arrangements that focus on Tori's voice, piano, and organ playing. This is by far one of Amos's greatest efforts.
Free Music Review: Angelic Hit: 5 Stars
From the infectiously pleasing opening track of Parasol to the somber and sobering denouement of Toast, The Beekeeper proves to be nothing short of a surefire masterpiece. While some may argue Little Earthquakes or Under the Pink may be her irrefutable standard bearers, I beg to differ. If such prodigiously introspective offerings as Witness, Sweet the Sting, Barons of Suburbia, & Mother Revolution are any indication, Tori has grown immeasurably as both a person and an artiste. Tori's incredibly visceral emotion is almost palpable at the amazingly powerful conclusion of Barons of Suburbia when she serenades us with, "She is Risen."
All in all, The Beekeeper is, without doubt, an extraordinary effort that truly transcends music as a whole as it elevates itself to more of a work of art rather than just mere music. Tori's angelic voice and profound artistry is sure to both soothe and please even the most discerning music enthusiast.
"When it's all said and done we will lose a piece to a carnivorous vegetarian." - Excerpt from Barons of Suburbia.
Free Music Review: Quite Tori Hit: 5 Stars
Well, I came across Tori napstering some years ago, I accidently downloaded "crucify". This year I started youtubing her intensively.
I liked all her different versions really well even the RAINN Version of Precious Things. She's kind of always changing and ridiculous sometimes, sometimes overacting. This Album is different from the others I have by now. Some say all songs had the same speed. Well I don't care. even if every song would only differ by one single note, I'd probably get into a mood even for that someday.
I Just love that "Ireland" song ridicolous as it is. For the Lyrics- well they have been more "powerful" when she sang about her Rape and her Miscarriages. I wouldn't want her having to experience things like that on an annual basis so pepople like her Albums. She wrote sommwhere that most songs are a product of digesting impressions she has - well she had rather ordinary impressions prior to writing these songs. Nice Product though and one, I'd recommend to everybody who's a little into Tori and open for discovery.
