Free Music Notes for TotalFree Music Review: Total - actually 3.5 stars Hit: 3 StarsI listened to this disc for the first time in a while and was again surprised at how good a debut this is. This album debuted at a golden time for Bad Boy Records and the tone and brash attitude of the trio instantly distinguished them from the other r&b girl groups of that era. The monster hit off of the disc is CAN'T YOU SEE which still sounds great years later.
The second huge single, KISSIN YOU is such a sweetly groovin' ballad and showed that the group wasn't only going to be the background vocalists for Bad Boy's rappers.
Other standout singles to me are: NO ONE ELSE, TELL ME, LOVE IS ALL WE NEED & DON'T EVER CHANGE. Although the producers used a fair amount of samples, like on Mary J. Blige's MY LIFE, they were used in a fresh way which created a new sound for a new group.
I'd recommend this disc to anyone who's curious about not only early Bad Boy artists but also how this group sounded in comparison to some of the other r&b girl groups out at that time.
Free Music Review: Total's Debut Hit: 5 StarsI remember this album when I was in the 3rd grade. This album was bumpin' in the streets. When you listen to this album, you cannot help but feel the attitude within Total. This album is defined as soulfulhiphopghettofunk. Their attitude and music are a combination of all their life experiences- both the good ones and the bad ones. The album is mostly a mid-tempo vibe, the chemistry between Total can be felt in each note they deliver. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1996.
Free Music Review: Not Bad Hit: 4 StarsI bought this cd 4 years ago. I've always been a Total fan. I think this cd is pretty good. But I haven't heard any recent music from them so I am looking forward to their 3th album.
Free Music Review: man Hit: 5 Starsman I miss this group, every single they came out with was off the hook. This album is great.
Free Music Review: Voices Hit: 4 StarsIt's a common belief that the ladies of Total didn't have the best voices in the world but you have to respect the spice they added to this genre of music. When they came out, not many women were coming with this brand of confidence and brazen sexiness. "Kissing You" was sweet and beautiful, but try "Do you think About Us" featuring Raphael Saadiq and "Tell Me"- those are classics. As much as I loved this LP I felt like they really revealed what they had inside with Kima, Keisha and Pam and it's just a shame that people weren't ready.
