Free Music Notes for Toto IV (Multichannel/Stereo)Free Music Review: Excellent Sonud Quality !! Hit: 5 StarsTha audio separation of this SACD it's just amazing, i heard musical instruments that i didn't before !!
Free Music Review: Recording; Awsome, multichannel; ho-hum. Hit: 4 StarsI'll start by saying, Toto is my favorite band of all-time, bar none!
Having said that, I don't think this multichannel SACD got the treatment it deserved. As expected from one of the finest recordings of its time, the stereo track is awesome........but, I and I imagine most, people buy SACD for the multichannel track, and I don't think this one delivers. The only song that is really "opened up" in 5.1 is Africa, every other track appears to just have a bit of reverb or echo here and there. Not the precise localisation of instruments around the listener you get on some other SACD recordings. I must say, my expectations of this SACD was quite high when I heard Elliot Schiener was involved in the 5.1 mix, which makes it even more disappointing having heard some fantastic sounding 5.1 mixes he has done in the past. Eagles, Hell freezes over and Fleetwood Mac, The Dance, to name just two. I only have a few SACD/DVD-AUDIO discs to compare it to, and it falls short compared to the likes of Pink Floyd, Dark side of the moon and The Eagles, Hotel California.
Don't get me wrong, I love this album, and I believe it should be a staple in every bodies record collection, but the multichannel version could have been better.
Cheers, Wags.
Free Music Review: Good Music Hit: 5 StarsI'm a 30ish black woman who adores Toto...This CD is great, I've ordered 2 (Greatest Hits & Toto IV), and I play them on my ipod consistently. When my friends come over and we're listening to music and this CD comes on, all my friends (black people)want to know who is that playing, because that white boy can "sang". This is one of my all-time favorites especially "Waiting for your love" I just love that song.

Free Music Review: Toto IV always works... Hit: 5 StarsRock music has never been at the top of my list. It's always been too noisy, too busy, too superficial, and usually too gross to collect my interest. I bought this album years ago. I can't get rid of it; I always come back to it. And it's always refreshing. There is genuine musical talent and ability in every track. And in every track, there is careful, intelligent development and well-balanced musical form. These guys came up with some very fine melodies, such as the touching intro in "I Won't Hold You Back". "Africa" is a classic, with its endless beat that perfectly mirrors the rhythm of the human heart. The sounds of Toto IV are large and broad, never overpowering, and satisfying in a way that lots of similar work isn't.
I am neither an expert nor am I musically well-educated. There are here a few excellent, well executed reviews of this album. The reviewers make excellent points which I wish I had the perception to make myself. This album is a great example of some of the best of what I, as a classical music fan, like to call modern music.
Beethoven--if I can be a little bold about this--would have been fascinated with the sounds on Toto IV, a collection for the heart and the intellect. To my ears, this is classic rock in the strictest sense of the terms.
Free Music Review: Toto's best Hit: 3 StarsToto IV is by far my favorite thing this band produced. In fact, really the only song by them I love that's not on this album is Hold The Line. Toto is a true studio musician all star assembly group, and their music is very professional, very solid, well produced, and generally flawless in execution. The music is commercial pop, with an 80s vibe, and ranges from ballads to... not "hard" rock but I guess I'd call it pop rock. The highlights are Steve Lukather's guitar solos and the vocals/harmonies. One of my favorite guitar solos of all time is in Rosanna. Ironicly, for being one of the world's best guitar players, Lukather holds back a lot with Toto I guess to help make the music more mainstream. If you want to check out Toto, or are a fan of their big hits, I'd say get IV over any "best of/greatest hits" compilations because this is their best stuff right here. Standout tracks: Rosanna, Make Believe, Africa.
