Free Music Notes for Tournament Poker: No Limit Texas Hold'em

Free Music Review: Poker 2005 beginners review
Hit: 4 Stars

I have never really played poker before and this program is very helpful.

Free Music Review: entertaining, but not realistic
Hit: 3 Stars

This game is entertaining for a while. It is a good way to practice the basic skills of the game, and get used to the basic rules. The game displays the various odds of winning with your two cards at every step of the game, pre-flop, flop, turn and river, and this is useful. I say it is not realistic because the AI that you play against is predictable and I quickly learned how to beat it every time...It is definitely unrealistic because in just my first few games I beat like 2000 simulated players to win the simulated world series, twice. Bringing my winnings up to a few million in just my first few simulated "tournaments". Now as much as I would like to believe that I am a poker prodigy, I think it is more likely that the games AI is seriously flawed if a beginner like me can win the simulated tournaments so easily...

overall I would recommend it to beginners, just to learn the basics and get familiar with the odds of various starting hands etc...It is fun for the first week that you play it. to get real poker skill I believe you need to play real people, for real money. As one of the other reviewers said it is true that playing online against people for play money is completely useless and unrealistic.

Free Music Review: Good game for a good price - but not for the advanced
Hit: 3 Stars

For the very most part, "Tournament Poker - No Limit Texas Hold 'Em" delivers what it offers. The game includes an easy interface, several useful options, and even some preset tournaments from a local card room to WSOP 2004. I ordered the game in hopes of finding a reasonably difficult poker simulator for a reasonable price.

However, the AI is precisely where the game is lacking. For an intermediate/advanced player who knows to fold the junk and play positionally, the AI becomes easily beatable. One week after ordering the game, I had beaten the WSOP 2004 at the highest computer skill level. That's 2500 opponents. Now, I know I'm not THAT good. The AI is by no means horrible, just not sophiscated enough. The computer will throw a few good bluffs your way, be warned, (I think I laid QQ down to 84) but I could barely recall being check-raised a single time throughout the entire WSOP tournament. The computer will rarely slowplay or trap you.

I guess for the advanced players out there, we may have to cough up the $90 to Wilson for a decent simulator.

Free Music Review: For Practice Only - Too frustrating to really enjoy
Hit: 3 Stars

It's a good game to experiment with strategies. But I can't stand it when I go "all in" and half the other players call me, even the ones that don't even have a pair, and I wind up losing to a straight or a flush at the river. Incidently, I think that there are too many straights and flushes being made in this game. I think it is difficult to get automated players to behave like real human beings. Still, it's better for practice than playing online, because online, the other players tend to slow the game down too much.

Free Music Review: Fun -- but not a learning tool
Hit: 3 Stars

I've had a lot of fun playing this the past couple of weeks. But if you're looking for real practice playing Texas Hold 'Em against skilled (virtual) opponents, this isn't a good choice. My evidence: It took me SIX TRIES to LOSE in heads-up tournament play. And I am NOT a good poker player.
