I was so happy to see that after taking a break to just live like a normal young woman, Tracie lodged a musical comeback. I gave the album 3 stars because it is commendable that she co-wrote 5 of the tracks but as a whole I really did not enjoy the album for the simple fact that Tracie does not sound like Tracie. I fell in love with her huge vocals & the perfect phrasing that I felt was waaaaay beyond her years on her previous albums.
Her vocal performance as a whole is not bad nor are the songs bad it's just saddens me when somebody who can really BLOW has to conform to whatever is selling or hot at the time in order to fit in - on more than a few tracks she is definitely undersinging in a whispery voice that sounds nothing like the Tracie Spencer voice that I fell in love with.
The tracks that stood out to me are:
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU (NOT ABOUT ME) - although call me crazy but her singing style reminds me of Brandy on this track
FEELIN YOU - I like the beats used and the female rapper
CLOSER & NOT GONNA CRY - I like the music production & chorus moreso than her leading vocals
LOVE TO YOU & STILL IN MY HEART - really pretty balladS that she sings in a very "airy" way which actually works on the tracks
I'd recommend it to fans who are curious about Tracie's progression as a singer but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's simply curious about music from this era (late 90s).
