Free Music Notes for New BeginningFree Music Review: So Smooth Hit: 5 StarsIt's a shame that Tracy Chapman doesn't do more recordings, but that is probably because she writes her own material and doesn't want to sound like everyone else. She definitely doesn't and that's an excellent thing! Among the 3 "favorites" that I have on this CD is the mellow "Smoke and Ashes," the bluesy "Give me Just one Reason," and "I'm Ready." This is good listening and would be comparable to a fine aged wine. Her Rich voice dominates, with mellow undertones. Class. Pure and Simple.
Free Music Review: This is the Best Tracy Chapman CD! Hit: 5 StarsTracy's strength is her strong resolve and love that shows through very powerfully on this CD. It's powerfully honest too, like the beginning track "Heaven's Here on Earth." Like a good painting does, this song moves a person to the center of spirit and grace. She's making an honest statement that we must all not wait for some magical heaven someday, that maybe we should all see all the wonder here on Earth. "A New Beginning"...the title track is the second track. It's an inspirational song, I think, to anyone who is attempting to make a new start with a new, perhaps more brave direction in their life. Again, it's honest and humble. "Rape of the World" is a song that has brought me to tears, a song that tears at the heart strings. One can just see that American Indian with a tear in his eye, saying, "What has the white man done to my world of beauty?" Have we gone too far with industrization, subdivisions, and so on? Everyone wants a piece of the pie and the world's population is skyrocketing. She's also speaking against greed. There's too much of it. These are some of the concerns of this song. "At This Point in My Life" also provides much soul-searching and contemplation, and it's done very gracefully. A philosophical state of mind that many of us can relate to during our life journey.
Could Christ come back next time as an Afro-American woman?
Christopher Reeve said, "Anything is possible."
BRAVO TRACY!!
Free Music Review: Her 2nd best album! Hit: 5 StarsWhile her debut will always be the best in my opinion, this album though would be a close second. "Give me one Reason" became a hit for a reason (it was smooth and probably one of the best blues cut of the 90's). The whole album shouldn't be judged based on that song though. All the songs are really good. I didn't feel the urge to fast forward past some songs to get to the one I like. My favorite song on this album is "New Beginning" which is her most upbeat energetic song. I found myself tapping my feet on a few occasions. Anyway this album is very easy to listen to and it's one of her more consistent albums and I really recommend it. Actually I recommend all her albums except for 2000's "Telling Stories"(the only album of hers I was disappointed with because it seemed like a step-down of her talent). And I give caution about "Matters of the Heart" (While I liked it, I'll admit it takes a while to get into).
