Free Music Notes for New BeginningFree Music Review: Amazing Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is by far among the top 10 in my collection. I could listen to it over and over again, especially "The Promise", which is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It's so soothing...I fall asleep to it at night. Both this and Tracy Chapman's other self titled CD are must-haves.
Free Music Review: Thanks for the good Tunes Tracy Hit: 5 StarsThis album is by far Tracy's greatest collection yet. Listen to Smoke and Ashes, it is a deeply impactful song. The promise has an incredible mesasge as well and will surely put you in an incredibly pensive relaxed state. "At this point in my life" is an amazing account of growing, regardless of your age or point in life. This CD is great for comtmeplating life in the car and singing at the top of your lungs!!ENJOY!!
Free Music Review: This album made me a Tracy fan Hit: 5 StarsLike a lot of others, I bought this cd because I loved "Give me one reason", and I was suprised at the other songs and style of them. I wasn't really familiar, before, of Tracys work, although I had heard "Fast Car" on the radio. Anyhow, at first I was a little disappointed, but, never one to dismiss something without giving it a chance, I listened to it a few times, and grew to love it. I think that's the problem with a lot of reviewers who gave this album a low rating. You really do need to listen to it a few times. I love the intimate, warm feeling it gives. Like being in a small club in the wee small hours. Her voice is very earthy and comforting, and she is a terrific song writer...her lyrics have things to say, not mindless, shallow lyrics like some (all of a sudden, Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" came to my mind). No, her lyrics are deep and thought provoking. Give it a listen,...I'm sure you'll like it.
Free Music Review: Touches my sentimental side Hit: 5 StarsI met someone this past summer whom I feel to be my soulmate. Problem is, she's engaged to be married. This summer we laughed, played, and simply enjoyed each other's company greatly. There is a song on this album that gives me goose bumps every time I hear it because it makes me think of her. The song is "The Promise". If I were allowed to tell her how I feel, this is what I would say. A wonderful, wonderful song and album.
Free Music Review: Middling Success Hit: 3 StarsNew Beginning is not the most apt title for this endeavor from Tracy Chapman. It implies freshness and change, when in fact the tracks are very like each other, and lyrics can be repetitive. That said, it is still worth an occasional listen. The radio-released "Give Me One Reason" will have you dancing, and is the only song of its bluesy beat. "At This Point In My Life" describes someone eager to, but afraid of taking a new step. The sorrowful "Remember the Tinman," "The Rape of the World," and "Cold Feet" all tell of things lost and crimes committed. The final track, "I'm Ready," washes the rest of the collection's pains away and faces bravely forward. If you're in the right pensive mood, New Beginning will make you feel comforted and understood. If not, you'll want a more vigorous wake-up call.
