But in this given world we live nowadays; where everybody has their own needs and wants yet they ( even the basic ones for some- consult Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs in any fine psychology, marketing or management textbook ) `ve never been completely fulfilled; where hatred, conflict, riot, famine, war, apartheid, et al still multiply; where difference in race means difference in privileges; where people tend to subjectively justify others' actions or even thoughts unfairly through their own simplistic thinking; where we wear a good, old-fashioned, horse-sensed coat named charity once or twice a decade ; etc., then her artistic existence and music are in need and could never make much more sense...

This self-titled album is the one for everyday people like us, you and me; decent people who get up in an early morning and go to school, college or workplace and hope one day we will make it better for you and me.......If it were a person , it would have tended to be the one that said, " Folks, I see no use in apartheid since it only makes things worse; I see no use in hatred just because they are different from you; I choose to accept others the way they are and hope they do me the same too; I wanna make it better for me and my another half even for a while in this fast car; I see no use in violence raining down onto women and children; I wanna make the world a better place even though I realize that I' m just a particle within a system; If I have too much, I' m willing to give some to those in need........." And this makes " Tracy Chapman, " the album different from some of the same concepts yet topics were chosen to be presented in such sarcastic, hateful, anti-social, depressing ways.
