Free Music Notes for Tracy ChapmanFree Music Review: Music from the heart Hit: 5 StarsIt is hard to find music, lyrics and emotion blend into an unbelievable work of art. Really makes us wonder about what we call music these days. Think about it... every song has a message, conviction, rhythm and an exceptional beauty to it.
The unusal thing about this album is that each and every song is lovely... Not just a song or two. Simply a superb collection of songs.
Just mesmerizing.
Free Music Review: A Master CD Hit: 5 StarsThis is a master CD - must in every collection. In the same line of all the fine albums. If you don't have it- no need to read reviews - just get it.
Free Music Review: A debut of mindblowing talent. Hit: 4 StarsWell it took me 16 years to get this, and then to realize how incredible an album it is. Sure I heard "Fast Car" a thousand times on the radio and liked it, but nearly every other track here is at least as good. "Talkin' Bout A Revolution" is another popular song of hers, and my favorites here are "Across The Lines", "She's Got Her Ticket", "For My Lover", and the beautiful "Baby Can I Hold You". That song is amazing. As much as I like the subject matter of most of these songs, it's still not as wonderful as the music itself. I'd be suprised if her eventual "Best Of" album was overall this pleasing.
Free Music Review: Good, but lacking fire. Hit: 3 StarsI know that blues and soft rock are very popular genres, and this album seems contain both of them.
But after listening to fast car a lot of times and a few of the other songs, the album seems to die.
So, with that being said, there about three or four good songs on this album, and the others are fill-ins - And actually they are pretty good fill-ins.
That's it,
Calvin
Free Music Review: Time to call it a classic Hit: 5 StarsI think enough time has gone by that this album should finally be called a classic. With a voice this expressive, lyrics this blunt, and a musical sensibility this exciting and haunting ... Tracy Chapman deserves legendary status for this album alone -- even though she's made more good ones since. Hard to imagine anyone going through teenaged years without lying in bed and listening to this at least once or twice. It's gritty and honest -- brutal, yet strangely comforting all at once. Made a whole generation want to buy guitars and make up their own songs!
