Free Music Notes for Low Spark of High Heeled BoysFree Music Review: Incredible music Hit: 5 StarsTraffic is nothing if not versatile, and "Low Spark" captures them at their artistic peak. The songs themselves have a loose vibe, yet as a whole the album is more focused and energetic than "John Barleycorn Must Die" before it. The expanded lineup helps them explore new territory and create new textures, from trippy psychedelica to jazz, folk, and straighforward rock. Song by song:
hidden treasure: 4/5. strong opening -- cool mystical sound with great vocals
Low Spark: 5/5. what can be said that hasn't been said before? classic song, all eleven minutes showcase amazing musicianship and songwriting
Light up or leave me alone: 5/5. Swings between rock and jazz flavors nicely -- tight playing, rebellious energy, and most of all extremely catchy.
Rock and Roll Stew: 4/5. Great rock song with nice guitar.
Many a Mile to Freedom: 4/5. Majestic, in a way; again a very catchy melody, altogether a well-written song, but possibly the album's low point, if there is one.
Rainmaker: 5/5. An amazing finish. The jazz-rock jam at the end is captivating, and the Chris Wood's winds add nice touches throughout.
This labum is a necessity for any Traffic newcomer, or devotee of truly innovative music of any genre. Never disappoints.
Free Music Review: Great Traffic CD Hit: 5 StarsWith THE LOW SPARK OF HIGH-HEELED BOYS, Traffic take aim at the negative aspects of the music business, and the results are stunning. The title song and "Rock & Roll Stew" criticize a music business that would rather hop trends than allow for creativity, something that, alas, rings even more true today than it did in 1971. The inclusion of "Many A Mile To Freedom" here is no surprise, considering bandleader Steve Winwood's advocacy of international sanctions on Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up drug-smuggling conviction last spring of a young Australian tourist. Winwood's principled stance makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Free Music Review: Early Steve Winwood at it's best . Hit: 5 Stars
On a cold winter snowy day I had to go for a 50 mile drive .
I was listing to the radio and cought the title track half
way throught and really loved what I heard . I have always
been a big Steve Winwood fan and this reminded me of a mini
jazz laced jam . I thank the good lord that the dj gave a
anouncment what the song was . well needless to say knowing
me I went right on line and Bought a Swedish remaster of it .
when I got the disc I was even more amazed than I was before .
the disc as a whole is simply out standing . this is my first
experience with Traffic and it was great . To me the stand
out number other than the title track is many a mile to freedom
&rock and roll stew . I beleive Steve has got to be very proud
of this one .
Free Music Review: Respect. Hit: 5 StarsTraffic's "Low Spark" is a masterpiece containing a buncha' good stuff ...the long "low Spark" and the killer song "Rock n Roll stew' are among the fine output by this 70's gang. Somewhat similar to another group you might have heard of called Steely Dan....They were kinda prog ..and you need to order a copy of this album for certain...We need music like this today in the world and no...I don't mean Dave Mathews band...there are good groups out there playin' in bars all over America...the record companys need to find groups out there like Traffic and Steely, ...perhaps what we need to do as fans is write letters and e-mails to the record companys and get these a & r people that they currently have ; OUT OF THERE AND HIRE SOME CREATIVE PEOPLE WITH REAL EYE FOR TALENT (FORGET THE POLITICS)...JUST HIRE TALENT AND SONGWRITING THAT SOUNDS LIKE NOTHING ELSE...THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU WOULD WANT...AND FER'GET RECORD SALES FOR NOW...IN THE NAME OF SAVING THE MUSIC CALLED ROCK N ROLL...WE NEED TO SEEK OUT BANDS OUT THERE PLAYIN IN CLUBS SOMEWHERE LIKE TRAFFIC...Maybe look in Europe..We have to Find them...otherwise rock has not much time left...you can't keep recycling these lame 90's aging bands forever (Greenday, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Gwen, Backstreet Boys, etc, rap)...you can't trick people forever...maybe for 5 years or ten...BUT NOT FOREVER...EVENTUALLY WE NEED REAL CHANGE IN THE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY....THERES A TRAFFIC OUT THERE ! SIGN EM !!!! --- CLARK HAGINS.
Free Music Review: Oh Please Change! Hit: 5 StarsWhy is it some people have to live in their stupid druggie past to enjoy any older music from that time? When music like Low Spark is great, it will stand the test of time whether you're a pathetic old stoner or not. I think that some people around here oughta get there act together and quit bragging about what a cool stoner doooooood they used to be. If you need to refer to drug use all the time to brag about an album, maybe you don't really like it so much. And how do you think that looks to kids?
