I have the distinct pleasure of introducing, without question, the greatest female voice to EVER sing gospel music... living legend Tramaine Hawkins!' as declared by Kurt Carr is what you'll first hear when you put this on. It's possible that he's not exaggerating here as Tramaine sits somewhere near the very top of the Gospel tree, in terms of unique tone and vocal ability as well as services to modern and traditional gospel. I Never Lost My Praise (Live) is a welcome recording from this diva stateswoman in her field.
Sticking to what she does best, Tramaine lays down the gospel gauntlet of power praise without attempting to out-riff the young guns. The first four tracks are a blast, classically showing where experience and testimony has the edge over youth in this business. The title number and Lord You Are are superb examples - you can't blow with conviction like that without decades of tough experience.
She has a TBN moment with the Worship Medley but even that still had a raw edge about it, especially revisiting the Walter Hawkins classic You're Everything To Me. I Need You was another welcome cover, not so sure about Oh Happy Day though, happily, it was kept close to the original than other interpretations I've heard.
No shy and retiring album, this is Tramaine showing she still has, and never lost, what she has always had - and all done in the best possible taste.
