Free Music Notes for Christmas Eve and Other StoriesFree Music Review: Christman with the power to move, and rock Hit: 5 Stars
This is quite simply a GREAT holiday album. I can't wait for the holiday season to come along every year just so that I can listen to it. The album, in part, tells the story of an angel sent to Earth on Christmas Eve in order to find out if the true meaning and spirit of the first Christmas can be found. The lyrical ballads tell a poignant and moving tale of the human condition and our ability to improve it if we simply will ourselves to follow and listen to the angels of our better nature. The other instrumentals inspire imagery of snow-covered slopes covered with pine trees. The one track that everyone pretty much has heard is Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24; this is a very powerful instrumental that brings to mind the ideal of Christmas while blending it with the reality of the horrors that have taken place in the name of "ethnic cleansing" in the republics of the former Yugoslavia. I highly recommend adding this and their follow-up Christmas album to your library.
Free Music Review: It's about passion Hit: 5 Stars
I've never felt the passion in music that I hear in this work. I'm one of the people who bought this CD for the Sarajevo track, and I quickly became amazed at the entire album. The following year, I was fortunate enough to be able to get the narrated version, and listening to the poem interspersed with the songs makes this even more of a wonderful experience. This album is a must for anyone who truly loves music--not just likes, or likes it a little. If you truly love music, you'll find the originality, the passion, and the love for what they're doing flow through you with every note. Listen to the words, follow the story, feel the journey, and you'll find that this is one of the most important musical experiences there is. And listen to it loud, as if you were at the concert, for that's when the passion shines through the most. What they've done with old Christmas standards revitalizes Christmas music, and gives us a whole new experience to live through.
Free Music Review: Bound to suit a variety of tastes Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard this CD a week ago, when my twenty-year old was playing one of the instrumentals in the living room and I thought "Gee, Mannheim Steamroller seems to have grown edgier since last year." My son clued me in that this was by another weird-named group and it didn't take long to hear the difference. But when I "borrowed" the disk from my son this morning, and downloaded it to my computer at work (for personal use only, of course), I quickly saw something on the Media Player playlist that no one else, including the official TSO website, has mentioned: There are actually 19 tracks on the cd! The eighteenth [2;28] kinda goes in and out of "Deck the Halls" and the last [4:43] is a vocal that sounds kinda like something from Queen (at least to these middle-aged ears), but I am not familiar with the lyrics or tune. I really wasn't expecting Easter eggs in a Christmas album, but there they are. Like almost every else has said: Try it! you'll like it!
Free Music Review: Different Influences Make For Great Christmas Album Hit: 5 Stars
CHRISTMAS EVE & OTHER STORIES is a unique Christmas album, blending such influences as Iron Maiden, Journey, Meatloaf, Shooting Star, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Uriah Heep, Cecile Chaminade, Boston, Stravinsky, Jimmy Buffett, Metallica, and Kansas to create an interesting sound that is unique in rock & roll. The album includes, in addition to the story of an angel sent by G-d to bring out the good in the holiday season, a story of a father and daughter who have not seen each other in years, and they miss each other terribly, until the angel, finding the daughter outside a bar, asks the bartender to come up with the cash so that she can afford to go home. In the end, they are reunited on Christmas Day. Even though I don't celebrate Christmas and feel it's more important to watch what I eat than to go to a lot of holiday parties, I'm still deeply moved by this album, and I give it 5 stars, even though it reminds me of fattening treats and other holiday stressors.
