Free Music Review: Putting the magic back into Christmas music

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is the most meaningful use of Christmas-themed music that I have ever had the pleasure to hear. This collection, which includes much of their studio work and a phenomenal DVD, is the perfect introduction to the world of TSO, that you'll find yourself listening to all year round.
TSO's music satisfies the 'theme-album' classical prog-rock lover in me (in the tradition of ELP, ELO, Yes and others), but more importantly, it gives the gift of putting the magic back into Christmas music. I had tears in my eyes when I first viewed the DVD, which gives you an idea of how they perform their shows, in the form of a touching story coupled with unbelievable performances.
The only thing better than having this collection would be to see their shows. Their amazing light show/stage productions easily pick up where Pink Floyd left off, and I never thought this was possible. It goes beyond that, and takes you back to your childhood, when the fantasy of lights, sounds and storytelling was still met with awe and wonder. It's ageless, timeless, and yet a product of modern technology that anyone of any age will find fascinating.

I bought this box set after hearing only a few of the really popular TSO tracks on the local radio station that turns to Christmas only music after Thanksgiving. I figured if I bought a 3 cd set then I'd likely be set for life. With the amount of tracks on these discs I really am.
I did not spend a whole lot of time reading the product description as I ordered it in a spare 5 minutes at work and I was very surprised when I found that there is a DVD in this set also.
Having not known much about TSO before, (I know, where have I been the last few years?) I can happily say that I can now tolerate Christmas music again with TSO's fusion of rocking guitar and classical orchestration, there were only so many times I could hear someone sing "Happy Holidays...Happy Holidays...Happy Holidays."
This is a great addition to my wife's extensive and very worn out Christmas CD collection.
Product packaging and design is very nice and there is a really nice printed booklet included.
Also, kudos to Amazon for getting this to me only 3 days after ordering this with free super saver shipping during the mad Christmas rush!
Free Music Review: Alternaive / Rock Opera Christmas music

A very nice set of 3 CDs and a DVD for those who have fallen for Trans-Siberian Orchetra.
CDs. The music is varied collection of mostly Christmas classics done in alternative sytles. About 1/3 is what I would call rock opera(lots of electric guitar and drums, but not hard/acid rock, but not mellow either), 1/3 is more classic, and the rest varied. Lots of vocal tracts which are not classical christmas songs, but rather use christmas as a topic/theme. A nice alternative to the old Christmas standards.
And yes, if you want to get into the computerized Christmas dancing lights, LOR (Light O Rama), this is a must have.
DVD. It has a nice storyline or organiziation. Basically ten of their favorite cuts, some older, some newer, some seem done for this DVD, while others seem to be to be from a stage show / consert. I would not be surprised to see it or a edited variation of it show up on PBS or even the Broad cast majors in '09 or '10. Better than a majority of the Christmas TV offerings.

My boyfriend goes to see their show every year and was going to take me, but I had to work...I would of made other arrangements if I would of known how awesome this band is and the show itself! So, I bought him the CD for Xmas because he enjoys the show so much....now I know why, after listening to the CD! We have not watched the DVD yet, but I cannot see how we will be disappointed...I want to get the whole collection evenually, I would say this is a good start and the price is right. I loved the CD and will never miss a show EVER...this music is awesome rock Xmas music for all to enjoy...it is not limited to any age...in the long run my boyfriend gave me the gift of introducing me to excellent music for the Holidays! I am going to look into more of their work and see what they have outside of Holiday Season, don't want to wait a another year if they have some great stuff laid down we can listen to now! Those who enjoy TSO music will appreciate giving or receiving this boxed set at a great low combined price for all 3 CDs + DVD. While the DVD is not a concert tour video, it does introduce their earlier rock opera songs in an imaginative format. The concerts are much better quality, however, even if only viewed in person and not yet out on DVDs. I sent a few of these boxed sets out this year to those who were "just acquainted" with TSO's body of work, and the feedback is very generous. TSO's musical genre is much needed after hearing all the usually holiday music selections offered on radio and TV this past year. It's quality music that will endure for many years to come and is enjoyed by cross-generational afficianados of their new twist on the telling of an old story at Christmas. Definitely a "must have" item for the holiday season gifting.
