Free Music Notes for Transformers - The Score AlbumFree Music Review: All Hail Megatron Hit: 3 StarsThe outcry by filmmusic geeks and Zimmer enthusiasts around the world was heard when there wasn't a score release for the movie "Transformers", now we have them album in all it's unoriginal glory and I must say despite it not being all that new, it's a blast to listen to. The movie has turned out to be my favorite movie of the year, but I can't say the same for the album since "Lair" from the great John Debney is my favorite album of the year.
Without a doubt, my favorite cue of 2007 has to be "Soccent Attack" which is the kickass music for the scene when Blackout wipes out the Army base. I just love how we hear the horns making that loud dramatic statement which is then followed by the male choir chanting the deceptacon theme. I don't know exactly what about that track drives me nuts but I just know I love listening to it. I won't be surprised if it ended up in my 25 most played list on iTunes by the end of this week.
Other tracks that have their charms are "Autobots", "Deceptacons", "Scorpinok", "Arrival at Earth", and "No Sacrifice, No Victory". "Autobots" is particularly interesting one to listen to. I don't see what female choir has to do with giant alien robots, but hey it works well. One thing I do wish though is that they had added the great piece of music for the shot right before Blackout transforms into a robot. It's a very suspenful piece of music that was great to listen in the theaters, but unfortunately it's not on the album. There's always the complete score to look forward to.
The similarities between this score and the one for "Batman Begins" as well as the "Bourne" Series are undeniable. I'm guessing it was a case of temp track gone mad. It does a bit distracting at times when you hear the string ostinato from "Batman Begins" or "Bourne" on the album, but then again what score from the Remote Control composers is entirely original. (*wait for hate mail in 3...2...1.....*) But that's not to suggest that the album doesn't have it's originality. The deceptacon theme is a great and powerful theme which as far as I can tell is original. The Scorpinok motif could also be original I guess, but the bass lines does bear a striking resemblance to that of bass lines from "The Kraken". But like I said before, despite not being an original score, it is a lot of fun to listen to.
If you can look past the similarities between the this and other blockbuster scores then you will be treated a pretty fun album. Even if you have the promo album I would still recommend this since it has a lot of tracks not available on the promo. Not to mention the sound quality is a lot better.
