Free Music Review: The best Transformers soundtrack out there
Hit: 5 Stars

First, I like to get the obvious out of the way. It may seem like a "duh" statement, but the more I see, the more I believe this has to be said. This is the soundtrack to the original 80's animated movie, not the '07 live action movie. If you're looking for the live action movie soundtrack, it's the one with the profile shot of the head of CGI Optimus. Try again. Now for the review of this release...

I first bought the 10-track soundtrack years ago. Even that version, without the four bonus tracks, I would have rated a solid five stars. It was great car driving music and there wasn't a single track that I would skip. If you've ever seen the movie, there isn't a single song or score on here that won't immediately conjure up images in your mind of the scene that it came from.

How much better is it now that it has four new bonus tracks? For one thing, even having said I'd rate the original album with five stars, there was one score that I always felt was missing, the Unicron theme. Now that this release has cleared up that minor oversight, I have to say that this album is nearly flawless.

Nearly flawless because I must admit I do skip over the new remix of the Transformers theme. But that's just personal preference. Besides, show me any other album where I only skip over one song, and I'd still have to rate it far above most other cd's out there.

With the inclusion of the Unicron Medley, Moon Base 2 score, Megatron Must be stopped scores and the original 10-tracks which I've already stated I never skip a track, this is a solid buy for any fan of the original Transformers Movie. In fact, if you dare to call yourself a Transformers fan, than this album deserves to be in your collection.

Free Music Review: 20 years and still growing stronger!
Hit: 5 Stars

Originally released by the now-defunct Scotti Brothers Records label, one of its biggest turnouts was Transformers the Movie, soundtrack to the 1986 animated movie of the same name.

Driven by its pulse-pounding, guitar-riffin' rock, it funny that 20 years after being released (and rereleased over and over), it still gets some play in my ride!

With an way better overhaul of the album cover art and credit sheet, it still features original 1980's rock icons Lion ("The Transformers Theme"), Stan Bush ("The Touch" and "Dare"), NRG ("Instruments of Destruction"), Spectre General ("Nothin's Gonna Stand In Our Way" and "Hunger"), funnyman "Weird" Al Yankovic ("Dare to Be Stupid") and Vince DiCola's rivetting score pieces ("Death of Optimus Prime", "Escape", "Autobot/Decepticon Attack", "Unicron Medley", "Moon Base 2" and "Megatron Must Be Stopped (Parts I & II)". This newer release also features the collabo of Stan Bush and Vince DiCola with the alternate version of "The Transformers Theme".

The only complaint that I have is that Volcano and Legacy Recordings should have asked Vince DiCola to add at least two more score pieces. What score pieces is left to the listener's imagination.

Overall, the soundtrack still rocks! Digitally remastered to perfection for the 21st century. The movie itself received an upgrade in conjunction with the forthcoming live-action movie (and it being 20 years old).

It's still "more than meets the eye"!

Free Music Review: You've got the touch, you've got the POWER
Hit: 5 Stars

One of the major complaints I've heard about the old animated Transformers movie (besides character deaths aplenty, flimsy plot, bad animation, lack of characterization, etc.) was that the soundtrack was loud and rather jarring. I beg to differ -- the songs were pulse-raising and just plain fun, and while not the type of music one would expect to accompany giant robots beating the scrap out of each other, they fit in an odd way. Days after the movie ended I still found myself humming "The Touch" and "Dare To Be Stupid" at odd moments.

So naturally one of my first Amazon purchases was the Transformers soundtrack, which made me fall in love with the music all over again. I love 80s rock, and this soundtrack is a classic showcase of it. Even if you don't recognize the artists (Weird Al is the only one I knew before seeing the movie), these songs will still capture the spirit of the music of that era.

My one complaint (and this is VERY minor) is that the CD case was a little cracked when I received my order. This didn't affect the CD quality, however, and having worked in a bookstore that also sold music, I know how hard it is to avoid cracking the case during shipping. Also, I doubt the CD's going to spend much time in the case anyhow -- if it isn't in my CD player, it's most likely in my portable CD case in my car.

Free Music Review: The Best AOR & Synth, soundtrack & score EVER!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is easily, by far, my favorite soundtrack, if not soundtrack & score combo, of all time, and I've heard quite a few of them. As most soundtrack enthusiasts know, the pop/various artist songs are usually by no-names or less-than-well-known names. Also, they usually are so-so, in my opinion. However, in this case, the songs are very unique and blend well with each other and the score--this is crucial to a great flowing soundtrack. At any rate, if you love the 80s, and pop-synth scores, then you will truly love this soundtrack. At least sample the pieces of the songs here on Amazon.

This last comment is for GameFAN HCGamer any anyone else not informed of the music CD releases surrounding this great movie. Go to[...] and you can learn about the few, but powerful releases they had at the Botcon conventions. TAAO and LTDH are very limited, so check eBay for them. You can go to [...] for music that Vince Dicola has released. All great stuff if you like his music.

Free Music Review: Irresistable if you are a child of the 80's
Hit: 5 Stars

I dare any fan of action cartoons from the 80's to not get chills running up and down their spine as they hear the opening bars of 'The Touch' by Stan Bush. This would have to be one of my favourite hard rock songs of all time and one that can instantly lift my mood no matter what.
Being more a fan of metal the tracks 'Instruments of Destruction' by NRG and 'Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way' by Spectre General are also stand out and it is hard not to be a fan of Kal Swan's soaring vocals on the Transformers Theme which is surely one of the best vocal tracks this guy has ever laid down.
Woven throughout these pumping rock tracks is the work of Vinnie DiCola, which is also able to transport you to various parts of the movie instantly with his talented compositions. I still get a bit misty eyed when I hear 'The Death Of Optimus Prime'.
Sheerly in terms of its nostalgic value this would have to be my favourite movie soundtrack of all time, without a doubt.
