Free Music Notes for Traveling Wilburys (2CD/1DVD, Deluxe Edition)Free Music Review: Wiburys, "A Road More or Less Traveled" Hit: 5 Stars
If you're over 40 and less than dead, you know the Traveling Wilburys. If you're under 40 and know the Wilburys, you're very cool!
This amazing peice of work is the result of four pretty good friends, loads of time, and complete lack of ego's. The music puts you at ease from the first note to the last chord. Everything in between is mostly fun and harmony of the best kind. Granted, some of the songs are a little rough, (the second album being talked about) but you have to take it all in perspective and give 'em a break. The podcasts tell a wonderfull tale and give you a feeling of hearing your friends shoot the breeze as oposed to four superstars being interviewed. The viginettes accomplish the same only with pictures that enhance the words.
It dosen't get much better that this.
The saddest part of the whole tale is the unexpected departure of Mr. Roy. I don't think it was the instrument of demise for the Wilburys, but it did remove some of the fun they seemed to have on a regular basis. Gladly, the music will live on long after the Wilbuys have traveled on and will continue to give us the sense of family that the group conveyed so well.
Free Music Review: Quintesential Must Have Hit: 5 Stars
One of the greatest compilations of influential musicians ever. No egos involved in the making of this music nor was there an infighting amongst the artist. Dylan, Petty, Orbison, Lynn and of course George Harrison all bring their life experiences and musical talent to two unbelievable albums that will leave you asking why that more musicians can't create artistic masterpieces like this. The first album has some of the best compositions from all the journeymen while the second seems to be a tribute to Roy Orbison while maintaining teh artistry of the first. Haunting lyrics, amazing melodies and unbelievable harmonies appear at some of the most unexpected places in all the songs. Nobody's Child which was recorded as an awareness song for the people of the world for all the orphans is one of the hidden gems on these albums as well as the remake of Runaway which seems to be a tribute to Roy Orbisons origins in Rock and Roll history. If you are a music lover or collector you need this set in your collection and if you are just getting started in collecting music then this set is a must have.
Free Music Review: One of the Best hits collections Hit: 5 Stars
The Beatles' George Harrison, Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty. Sounds like one hell of a super group, doesn't it? Well, it was! Back in 1988 this five some hooked-up to write and perform the kinds of music they do best. Alone, the five each had their own unique sound. Together, they brought all those sounds together to take themselves to a higher plane. It also helped that they were the closet of friends.
Although they only released two studio albums, the meat-and-potatoes of those albums can be found here (okay, it's both albums with bonus tracks). "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line" were perhaps their most memorable, but each track falls in line with the Americana sound that the Wilburys were known for. Two previously unreleased tracks are included on each disc. Where most bonus tracks are filler and junk, the ones included here are quite good. Be sure to look for the 3 disc Deluxe Edition that includes a live DVD performance
Free Music Review: George's Perfectly Legendary Guitar Supergroup Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, what a week! First Paul's "Memory Almost Full", now the Traveling Wilburys. And Ringo's "Liverpool 8" comes out this month too! Feels like the '70 all over again...Sorry to digress.
I just listened to/watched the "Deluxe Edition" CD and documentary and videos. It doesn't get much better than this! "Hall of Fame" vocals, loads of outstanding guitar playing, to-die-for harmonies, all high energy but laid back fun. George formed this group from close friends. Those relationships shine through on every track. The classy packaging reminds me of first opening "The Concert For Bangladesh" or "All Things Must Pass". Lots of postcards, pictures, and a very sturdy box and "Wilbury's History Book". My only complaint: No lyrics! Unbelieveable! Best moments...."Archive" footage of all sessions, especially Roy Orbison's vocals on "Not Alone Any More" and George leading the band through "End Of The Line". Pure Music Review: sometimes words are not enough Hit: 5 Stars
Sometimes its so hard to find the right words to describe something you like.
Travelling Wilburys definetely fits in this category.
There is an aura around this group and the albums, that one can not tell easily. Watching the DVD of this special pack, you'll understand why. And love the album more.
We all have our favorite bands, singers, composers etc.
But Travelling Wilburys.. It's something else.
It has the energy of a rare friendship, experience, talent, megastar dust, art.. however you name it.
If you like the sound of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan or Tom Petty, this one is a nice pick for you.
But if you wonder what happens, if some "legends of music" decide to record a "hobby" album and fill it with joy and fun, you'll be surprised when you see the result. - its unbelievably beautiful !
