Free Music Review: Trey Songz - I Gotta Make It

I remember it like it was yesterday, i walked into a FYE in my city, expecting to get Joe's And Then album, and then litterally stumbling across Trey's album. At first i couldnt believe it was already out because i was obsessed with his first single "Gotta Make It", i listened to that song at least twice a day, so i thought for sure i woulda been the first one to know when his album dropped. But anyways, i was a little dissapointed after the first listen of the album. But after a few listens it really grew on me. The thing with this album, is you can really tell he made music that was true to him. With this album he wasnt trying to sell a million records, he just wanted to make good R&B music, thats all. This album is not a Soul record, but its a very soulful R&B album. He just went out and did some great R&B music on this album. He didnt really bring much up tempo tracks to the album except for on the club banger song "Ur Behind", where he sounds like Justin Timberlake on the hook. And then on the more mid tempo, but still very sexy "Ooo", you can tell he wasnt going for a club track, but a song with alot of swagger, which it has. Its definetly a standout track. Then there is the two singles, one being the more uplifting feel good track "Gotta Make It" which is a phenominal song, and then on "Gotta Go" he takes on the more sexy ballad approach. And then on strait country R&B songs like the sugary sweet ballad "Comin' For You" and the sexy morning after song "Kinda Lovin", he really shows his country loving roots. The thing that really sets Trey apart from most of the other R&B artists out there right now, is that he can actually sing really well. And he really shows that on this album. This album is a classic, real R&B music. Homerun for this country R&B boy!

Having drawn musical inspiration from a wide variety of contemporary R&B/ Hip Hop artists, his songs are filled with a passion and a mosaic of his young adult life. Though he is still a "baby" in the game he has cut his teeth writing and collaborating with some of the industries most respected artists and producers including: Juvenile, Twista, Scott Storch, Troy Taylor, Organized Noize, Dre & vidal, Lil Jon, Track Boyz, Patti LaBelle, Donnell Jones, Gerald Levert, T.I., Omarion, & Obie Trice.
