Free Music Notes for ReadyFree Music Review: I'm Now A Fan Hit: 5 Stars
Trey Songz didn't really impress me as much over the pass couple of years, but year 2009 has really been Trey's year as far as music goes. He already put two studio albums out already and they were decent at best but nothing really special. This album however proves that Trey Songz is now a force to be wreckon with in the R&B game. This album shows how Trey has matured not only with songing but as well as his musicality as a whole. He seems much more comfortable with his singing ability the third time around and proves that he really is "Ready" to put his name on the map.
This album is a one of the most complete R&B albums I have come by in a while, every song seems to fit well with the overall theme of the album and not one song seems to be a filler. That is very rare especially when you have 17 tracks on one album, and makes you wonder how Trey is able to keep refreshing the same cliche' theme of love over and over again with each song.
1) Panty Droppa (Intro) - just an intro to the album, but makes you wanna make love on the spot. The intro is very reminicent of what R. Kelly used to do in his prime. Safe to say,....Trey Songz is today's R. Kelly. 5/5
2) Neighbors Know My Name - a nice opening track saying basically when Trey makes love, he makes it known to everyone around him. A pretty nasty song if you ask me. 5/5
3) I Invented Sex feat. Drake - the song is the most complex production on the album in my opinion and really seperates itself from the rest of the album. The song features longtime friend and fellow upcoming rapper Drake and he adds a nice touch to the song. The songs title pretty much says it all. 5/5
4) I Need A Girl - a radio friendly first single off the album. The catchy beat really pulls you in as soon as you hear it, and the hook is what makes you love it. 5/5
5) One Love - this is the best song on the album in my opinion. I absolutely love the production of this track cuz it creates an atmosphere of what Trey is singing about. He is singing about his "one love" which he sings is all he needs and all he wants. 10/5
6) Does He Do It - A nice song which is basically about "whatever he can do, I can do better". I find the hook kinda cliche' and a little uncreative. But the song is still better than average. 3.5/5
7) Say Ahh feat. Fabolous - a song specifically made for the club. The song kinda reminds me of Jamie Foxx's "Blame It" single that came out last year. I bet when Trey made this song he had that song in his mind, so generally this song is Blame It (On the Alcohol) part. 2. Fabolous raps on this joint and raps about the same s*** every time. The song can have two meanings if you have a dirty mind. 5/5
8) LOL :-) feat. Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy Tell'Em - this song took me a long time to like, but once I did it just kept playin over and over in my head. The song is the catchiest on the album and a very playful theme using phone texting as a form of sex. The song features two of the worst rappers ever alive so I have to knock off a point, but the song is pretty funny and catchy. 4.5/5
9) Ready To Make Luv - a small interlude that gets right back to the love making theme. Although technically not a song, the song just pulls you right in the mood of making love, and also Trey shows off his vocal range a bit. 5/5
10) Jupiter Love - this song has a Prince vibe to it. Trey tries to make his lovers feel like they're in another world. I guess haha...the song is a straight up slow jam and one of the best on the album. 5/5
11) Be Where You Are - I like this song a lot. The song is something you would hear in the 90's, and he loves to keep making your head nod. The song is another catchy tune and shows that Trey doesn't have to talk about sex all the time. 5/5
12) Successful feat. Drake - this marks Drake's second appearance on the album. This song came out a while ago on Drake's "So Far Gone" mixtape back in February which orignally was a 6 minute long track that also feat. Lil Wayne. Since the song became ironically became a success, he thought it would be nice to put the track on his album adding a new verse replacing Lil Waynes. The song has a very cold chilling vibe which is kinda hard to explain. I found the song very boring when I first heard it mainly because of Drake's boring flow and bad storytelling, and not much has changed but I have grown to appreciate it a little more as time went on. 5/5
13) Black Roses - This song took a while to like, but I have grown to love. This song is an example of Trey's maturity in music and shows he will be just find with all the adult contemporary music lovers. 5/5
14) Love Lost - This song is kind of like a little remake of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" song and you can tell right away when you hear it. It has a nice little story to it tho. 4/5
15) Hollalude - another skit like song of the album. This is an interlude to the next song, and a great one at that. I swear, Trey's interludes are a lot better than full songs of crappy R&B artists. 5/5
16) Holla If Ya Need Me - this song is one of my personal favorites. All I gotta say is that you will love this track from the 1st time you hear it. 5/5
17) Yo Side of the Bed - a nice sensual way to end the album. Trey Songz has put out one of the best R&B albums of all time in my opinion. If Trey continues to keep making albums like this, he is sure to become one of R&B's finest. Keep doing ya thing Trey..YUPPPP!! 5/5
Ready PosterSince making his recording debut in 2005, Trey Songz has patiently and artfully crafted some of the most acclaimed and compelling R&B music of the decade. His first two Songbook Entertainment/Atlantic albums, 'I GOTTA MAKE IT' (2005) and 'TREY DAY' (2007), yielded a trio of top ten singles, 'Girl Tonight,' 'Last Time,' and 'Can't Help But Wait.' And when the latter song garnered Trey a coveted Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, it marked the validation of the faith shown in Trey by the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who hailed him as one of 'the most promising R&B artists we have had since we started the company 60 years ago.' Now, with the 2009 release of 'READY,' Trey Songz is more than ready to claim his place in the pantheon of R&B greats. From the street single, 'Brand New,' to his self-described male version of Mary J. Blige's 'Be Without You' in 'One Love,' the Virginian draws on a range of influences to craft an album that will thrill his longtime fans and happily surprise all newcomers to the Trey Songz story. Indeed, with its blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop - exemplified by tracks like 'Black Roses,' where Trey croons over a distorted guitar - 'READY' demonstrates his growth on every front. The third time around, Trey displays a new vocal maturity combined with his renowned ability to twist notes and keys effortlessly, while presenting an increasing breadth of subject matter.
