Free Music Notes for Trio II (Two)Free Music Review: Voices of Angels Hit: 5 StarsTRIO II was recorded in 1994, but production delays and schedule conflicts prevented this album from being released. In 1995, a lot of the songs appeared on Linda Ronstadt's album FEELS LIKE HOME, only in solo form. Finally this album was released in early 1999, proving to be just as promising as the original TRIO album of 1987.The ladies take turns on each song. As well they lend their voices, as they intertwine to create the most heavenly and beautiful sound three voices could possibly make together. These ladies were born to sing together! The melodies and harmonies are apparant throughout the album, but especially stand out on songs like Lover's Return, High Sierra, Feels Like Home, and He Rode All The Way To Texas. Their cover of the Neil Young song After The Goldrush (which also appears on Parton's 1996 TREASURES album, and Ronstadt's 1995 FEELS LIKE HOME album), without taking away from the original beauty of this classic song. Overall this collection doesn't disapoint. It was worth the wait, and you'll be mesmerized by its beauty. Give this one a try, especially if you liked the original Trio, this one in my opinion is better (not to say Trio was bad, it was fantastic!)
Free Music Review: Beautiful Harmonies Hit: 5 StarsTrio II is a long awaited chapter in the Trio series. Dolly, Emmylou and Linda are back, with a new collection of songs they have recorded. It will be compared to their successfully 1987 Trio album, but I believe this one stands on its own, as they are both excellent albums.1. Lover's Return - I love the harmonies on this song, they are beautiful and its just a perfect way to start the CD, to showcase the beautiful harmonies we will hear on this album. 2. High Sierra - Beautiful voices, beautiful lyrics, beautiful song. 3. Do I Ever Cross Your Mind - Emmylou takes lead on the cover of Dolly's own hit. Very nice! 4. After The Goldrush - A cover of the Neil Young song, they do it wonderfully, its my favorite on the album. The lyrics are so poignant and meaningful and they truly bring new light to this classic. 5. The Blue Train - Linda sings lead on this one, its beautiful and another highlight of the album. 6. I Feel The Blues Movin In - A nice fun country song to sing along with and dance with, real nice. 7. You'll Never Be The Sun - Remake of the classic, they do it wonderfully with sunny vocals and harmonies. 8. He Rode All The Way To Texas - Another highlight of the collection, shows off their harmonies in a tragic tale about a travelling man who moves on effortlessly without a tear. 9. Feels Like Home - From Linda's 1995 album, a nice song, basically the same but with Dolly and Emmylou as an added bonus. 10. When Were Gone, Long Gone - Nice song to end this collection, beautiful music with great vocals and lyrics. A nice collection, with some great harmonies all throughout. A lot will compare it to Trio, but if you just listen to it objectively, you will see it stands on its own as a great collection of standards, as well as some of their own hits remade.
Free Music Review: Heavenly Country Hit: 4 StarsOK - I give up! I put off buying this for so long because of the "country" tag - you know, country=bad, folk, rock, blues=good. Listening to these three heavenly voices soar on "After the Gold Rush" swept away the last of my prejudices. This album is class, however you want to classify it. Its not often you can say you like every track on an album the first time you hear it, but from the first breath of "Lover's Return" to the dying notes of "When We're Gone, Long Gone" I was hooked. Overall the album has a more gentle, less contemporary feel than "Western Wall" (which I also love). Showing my usual flair for doing things backwards, I'm looking forward to hearing the original "Trio".
Free Music Review: Slightly boring Hit: 3 StarsI found this CD to be boring. There are only a couple of songs I found to be really worth listening to: When we're gone, long gone and Do I ever cross your mind. You'll never be the Sun is done much better by Lynn Morris on her CD of the same title. After the Gold Rush is beautifully done but I don't like the way they changed some of the original lyrics in it. I guess they found some of the lyrics a bit objectionable, but the song was written that way and should have stayed that way or not recorded at all. Emmylou Harris' voice is the only one that shines. As loyal a fan that I have been of Linda Ronstadt's over the past several decades, I think it's time to give it up Linda! I wouldn't buy Trio 3
Free Music Review: An Eclectic Delight Hit: 4 StarsSlightly more offbeat than its predecessor, this second Trio nonetheless offers as many thrilling moments as the first. Song selection is varied with standout cut being a surprisingly sensitive and competent reading of Neil Young's "After the Goldrush", where the three are backed by a glass armonica, lending an eerily gothic beauty to this classic song. Ronstadt belts on "High Sierra", her voice as commanding as it was during her "Different Drum" days, and Parton's "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind", provides a magnificent vehicle for Harris' stunningly windswept vocals.
