Free Music Notes for Songbook: A Collection of HitsFree Music Review: In a league of her own Hit: 5 StarsJust for the record, i am not an avid fan of country music. A dedicated follower of the melodic heavy rock "genre", ranging from poprock to metal, i have only recently widened my scope and expanded my horizons to include some of today's leading country artists. With due credit to Country Music Television, which during a three month period introduced me to a host of talent from the other side of the tracks (until my cable company in its infinite wisdom decided to pull the plug), i acquired a taste for a number of acts on the cutting edge of the Nashville scene.Trisha Yearwood in my experience is the best of the lot. Her innate presence, keen sense of how a particular song should be interpreted and unrivaled vocal ability transcend any stylistic classification. Her delivery is spot-on and streamlined to perfection (like the instrumental part of the equation), her exemplary technique in total unison with the emotional intensity with which she invests her songs. Her narrative lyrics deal with everyday, down to earth topics, mostly addressing matters of the heart from a (female) third-person-singular perspective. The CD's booklet contains an analytical, extremely well written "editorial", which explains at great length why the Georgia born Yearwood has all the makings of an exceptional artist and clarifies the philosophy behind the lyrics of the album's featured songs. Seeing half a dozen or so of her music videos on CMT (all of which i greatly enjoyed) prompted me to buy this compilation CD, or at least its European version, which contains 5 extra cuts. Several of the songs that are so conspicuously absent on the US version are among these bonus tracks: "Everybody knows" is represented by the bright, uptempo "Believe me baby i lied" and the slow & bluesy "A lover is forever", while the familiar Melissa Etheridge cover "You can sleep while i drive" and gripping, melancholic ballad "On a bus to St. Cloud" are two more essentials from the "Thinking about you" album, in addition to the classically arranged, daintily orchestrated "The flame". Among the 12 tracks on offer on the US version are 3 previously unreleased tracks. The passionate "How do i live" (written by Diane Warren) from the "Con Air" soundtrack knocks LeAnn Rimes's feeble attempt into a cocked hat, as i'm told the saying goes. "Perfect love" is a snappy little track, whereas "In another's eyes" is one of two fairly common duets with Garth Brooks (the only American male country artist who is reasonably "big" in the Netherlands), the other one being "Like we never had a broken heart". Neither one by the way is on a par with "Where your road leads" (the song, not the album). 7 tracks on here have at one time topped the country charts. I will however not pretend to be blown away by each cut, although there are no major losers or snoozers in the bunch. Predictably, among the remainder of the tracks i am most impressed with the jaw-droppingly beautiful "The song remembers when", the dual package of "She's in love with the boy" and "Walkaway Joe" (variations on a similar theme) and "The woman before me" for daring to venture beyond cheap sentiment. Proving Trisha Yearwood's prowess at performing both catchy, uplifting tunes and (mournful) tearjerking ballads. Coupled with a clean, crisp production, this is the kind of music that should appeal to people from all walks of life who know a good thing when they hear it. (Hell, even my mother likes this one, which qualifies as a minor miracle, cause she usually runs a mile from any music i remotely dig.) I would recommend that you pass up the US release and seek out the 17 track Euro, or even the 18 (?) track Australian version in order to sample a more complete overview of Trisha Yearwood's career thus far. "You can sleep while i drive" and especially "On a bus to St. Cloud" (superb lyric, best country ballad ever ?) are not to be missed. I am led to believe that the European release is definitely still available, perhaps by way of Amazon's English or German branch. Shouldn't be too hard to obtain in these days of long distance shopping.
Free Music Review: SHES RATE GOOD! Hit: 5 StarsShe has such a good voice and her songs are so cool. I have this CD and I recomend it to everyone who loves country music! SHE IS AWESOME!
Free Music Review: Good collection of TY's hits Hit: 5 StarsSongbook is a great collection of TY's hits, with the exceptions of the hits from the "Everybody Knows" album, which were mysteriously omitted from the CD. But, this album gives you a sampling of her talents. From ballads like "How Do I Live" to fun songs like "XXXs and OOOs", she demonstrates that she's a great performer. I like her new songs on this album a lot, especially "Perfect Love". You'll find yourself singing along after the first verse! Overall, it's a good collection of hits. The songs are staggerred to blend the slow and fast tracks into a nice album to listen to.
Free Music Review: I went to her concert and I bought the CD! Hit: 5 StarsNot just one song on this CD is good, but all of them are great. I can listen to her music. The words flow nicely, and she doesn't try to overpower her voice on high notes. She's origanal, not like some of the phonie artists out there. This CD is wonderful, and the money spent on it is not wasted.
Free Music Review: I like this one Hit: 5 StarsI bought Trisha Yearwood's Songbook: A Collection of Hits mainly because of the song "How Do I Live". I also like Lee Ann Rime's version of the song, but I personally prefer Trisha's version because of the way she sings it. She has a powerful voice that stays with you. The other previously unreleased songs, "Perfect Love" and "In Another's Eyes"(the duet with Garth Brooks) are also outstanding, and after you get past these songs, there are enough of Trisha's hits to make this collection a great one. "She's In Love With The Boy", "Wrong Side Of Memphis", and "Walkaway Joe", my favorites among Trisha's songs, are on here. Also, "Thinkin' About You", "Down On My Knees" and "The Song Remembers When" are outstanding. In my opinion, you won't find a bad song on here. Trisha was careful to pick her best songs for this record, and for that, I give her five stars.
