Free Music Notes for Hello...xFree Music Review: A greeting that can't be ignored. Hit: 4 StarsThe anticipated sequel to 2005's Twentythree, Hello...x introduces a Prettyman who's found her voice and a confidence to wail a little. Twentythree was a perfect beach album, camped in a wood-and-steel acoustic setting. On Hello...x, Prettyman judiciously adds handclaps, elcetric and slide guitar, and some very funky lyric rhythms to strike the perfect balance between intimate songwriting and Pro-Tools production precision. "Hello" starts with a single guitar and grows toa clap-happy conclusion. "Echo"'s kiss-off to a recalcitrant love juxtaposes a quarter-note lock-step bass with Prettyman's sixteenth-note lyric improvisations -- the charge followed by the evidence. On "Handshake," Prettyman tosses Last-Tango-in-Paris imagery atop and R&B bed with one "uh-huh" goal in mind. Like a Suzanne Vega minus the iciness, or a Shelby Lynne with less of a country air, Prettyman posts a greeting that can't be ignored.
Free Music Review: I Love Love Love This Album! Hit: 5 StarsWow, I don't know how I stumbled upon this album, but I'm so happy I did! The vibe is mellow but still upbeat. There are so many seriously catchy songs on this album (Handshake and Hello being a couple of my many favorites). Her voice is gorgeous and unique. The best way to describe the style is that it's pop with a blues-country, soulful, folk, beachy vibe. Reminds me a lot of Colbie Cailat, Stacy Clark, KT Tunstall, & Norah Jones. It's the kind of album that you can listen to over and over and love it more every time!
Now I've got to buy her previous album, Twentythree:)
Free Music Review: hello X Hit: 5 StarsJust plane AWSOME!!!! My first Tristan Prettyman CD and it will not be my last. A must have....
Free Music Review: Delightful, in vein of Sarah McLachlan or Norah Jones Hit: 5 StarsIf you like music in the vein of Sarah McLachlan or Norah Jones, you simply must check out the music of this young musician named Tristan Prettyman.
I discovered her two albums Twentythree (2005) and Hello (2008) a few days ago, and I can't stop listening.
Highly, highly recommended.
She's a bit more country than Sarah, and a bit less hokey-folksy than Norah Jones. But she gives great melody with a terrific voice. (Oops, did I just say that?) She actually does a dead-ringer for Norah in the song "Blindfold" (not one of my favorites, personally, though).
Free Music Review: enjoyable Hit: 5 StarsKinda bluesy, clever well written lyrics-not trite, guitar simple. Her voice may not be as rich as some other singers but so what-her voice is very pleasant; that coupled with decent lyrics- she standouts. Its listen to anytime type of music. I would buy another album if as strong as this one.
