Free Music Notes for Ascendancy AlbumFree Music Review: Trivium has set a new standard for American Metal! Hit: 5 StarsIt's hard to grasp the fact on how much better this band has become since their release of Ember to Inferno. I really thought of them as a second rate band, but after I recieved their new CD I was slapped silly. I'm not a Trivium fanboy trying to support them, I'm just tellin it like it is. Another factor that makes this band so great is their age...it's amazing. The band age range is 19-23. Well on to the review of some of their songs....ALL THEIR SONGS ARE GREAT. My personal favorite are "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation", "Like Light to the Flies", the Soilworkesque "Dying in Your Arms", and Departure. But I can sit down and listen to this CD over and over. It has so much replay value. It doesn't get old for some reason. Matt Heafy's voice has matured ALOT since their first release. He's really improved on the melodic parts of his voice and now has more variation in it. I'm proud of this band for what they've accomplished so quickly. Mark my words, this band will be the next BIG thing for the metal community...and hopefully the entire world of music. ROCK ON TRIVIUM! \m/>_<\m/
Breakdown of Songs
1. The End of Everything -> Great opening for the CD. Very calm, but the listener know's that a storm is coming. <10/10>
2. Rain -> This the icebreaker for the listener. These guys cut right into the song and show their fans what they have elevated to since their last release. <9/10>
3. Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr -> This is their single off the CD I guess. Very catchy song. The solos are just awesome. In the beginning of the chorus he sounds very Hetfieldish and I dig that. <10/10>
4. Drowned and Torn Asunder -> At this point of the CD you begin to think when they'll give a flop for a song. This song lead me to believe just that, but then they let loose the double bass and it just all killed from there. Awesome song! <9/10>
5. Ascendency -> I expected the title track to kick ass...and it did! Starts off brutal and remains that way for a while with the drummer tearing up the double bass and then it crashes into melody, but comes back with a destructive force. <10/10>
6. A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation -> This track is brutal. The song is that way for about 2 1/2 minutes then cuts in to melody out of no where....VERY unpredictable. I LOVE IT! <10/10>
7. Like Light to the Flies -> This is the song that let me know about this band. D/L from their website last year and fell in love with it. They did a great job remixing the song and cleaning it up. Song is predicitable with the clean vocals, but great nonetheless. <9/10>
8. Dying in Your Arms -> This song reminds me alot of Soilwork at the beginning. It's a slow song for Trivium. This song is probably going to have a video to attract unsuspecting listeners into their clutches to be baptized into metal. <9/10>
9. The Decieved -> Another Brutal song. It's fast paced and unrelenting. <9/10>
10. Suffocating Sight -> The double bass in this song is amazing. The drummers legs had to have flown off during the recording...poor guy. Awesome breakdowns and awesome screaming in this track. <10/10>
11. Departure -> Not your typical slow song. Cut's into heaviness about a minute into the song, but it's still a soothing song. <10/10>
12. Declaration -> Awesome song to finish a GREAT album. Seven minutes of greatness here. <10/10>
Please support this band and help them attain a higher level of creativiy. It's rare in today's world that a band's sophomore release turns out to be better than their first album.
