Free Music Review: Big Dissapointment, complete waste of a great metal band!
Hit: 1 Stars

Just picked this up yesterday, and must say I am really dissapointed. Trivium took a major step with their last release (The Crusade), as the terrific clean vocals elevated the group to elite status and I found the band to rival only titans such as Iced Earth, Metallica, and Opeth in terms of the best the genre has to offer. As such, I was waiting with bated breath the release of Shogun. Unfortunately, the group seems to have been pressured by their "hardcore" following to return to the 'screaming' style of vocals. The songs suffer, and it's a shame because this is a group of musicians that are on top of their game. EVERY Song on this release is marred at one point or another by the cookie monster vocals.

Why would a band sacrifice musical and vocal quality in this way in order to "save face" with their fanbase? The only reason I can come up with is Crusade didnt' go Platinum or Gold, (thus putting them in position to be the 'new' Metallica, a label I am sure this band was striving for) so the decision was made to simply go back to the "hardcore" singing style as they perceive they have nothing to lose...

In summation, if you are a traditional metal head who enjoys melody along with pummelling riffs, stay away from this but hold onto your copy of Crusade. However, if you enjoy metalcore and screaming vocals, you will find this to your liking. I can't expect Trivium to make it to the next level of metal greatness unless they go back to the more traiditional metal style of Crusade.

Shogun Poster

Trivium stormed onto the metal scene in 2005 with their critically acclaimed debut album Ascendency and continued their dominance with the follow-up The Crusade. Now the band has unleashed their most cohesive and mature effort, Shogun. The band is poised to continue to knock the metal and hard rock community on its ass with what will definitely be hailed as the metal album of the year by critics and fans alike!
