Free Music Notes for Try! John Mayer Trio Live in ConcertFree Music Review: "not gonna happen hunny!" Hit: 5 Stars
So at the show my good friend and I couldn't help but torture the 15 year old girls who came to a "John Mayer" show. Asking what their favorite songs were and what they wanted to hear that night, then quickly responding with "not gonna happen hunny"
First-you have to know what you are getting into with this album. This isn't John Mayer. And please know who the hell he is workin with, these musicians are well respected individuals and anyone in music today would be honored to work with these two guys.
Pino Palladino on bass-he's recorded with everyone-Eric Clapton, Don Henley, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan. He toured with Jeff Beck, The Who, Simon and Garfunkel!
Steve Jordan-"the funkiest drummer alive"-recorded with Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Herbie Hancock-he's been playing with blues acts since the middle 70s.
Basic point is these guys are highly regarded blues musicians.
This album is simply amazing, the live experience was 10x this. Pick up this album and be impressed. This is not your little sister's John Mayer album, he finally has shown what he is capable of.
Free Music Review: Be True To One's Self Hit: 5 Stars
I have rated this album at five stars because of the belief John had in his love for the history of blues and wanting to put it out there in his personal interpretations and his admiration for the artists that had brought us the blues previous {I never met John so I guess it is proper to call him Mr. John Mayer].He brings alot of SRV style and melody in on this one with the Trio.Following the growth, of this artists development into a future great ,is exciting and he has held his own on the forefront with some amazing talents! So proud that he is receiving the Hal David Starlight Award shortly in New York. He is very deserving indeed!I really have difficulty in choosing one of the songs over the others, each has portrayed its unigue style. But, if I must I would probably pick Vultures,Gravity and "What Johnnie Did".We will no doubt have the pleasure of enjoying this fantastic allround personality, artist, singer, songwriter, and somewhat actor as well, for a long time to come.Good luck on the Disney "Cars" song.Looking forward to the JOY I know his new album "Continuum" will bring us. Free Music Review: Don't buy if you can't think outside the blues box, but if you are open to originality, BUY IT. Hit: 5 Stars
Seems that hardcore blues fans are having a problem with this album. Trouble is, this isn't and never was advertised as hard core blues. Get over it guys, if a Stevie Ray Vaughan clone is what you are looking for, there is always Kenny Wayne Shepherd trying to immitate SRV in every way. John is original. Period. Lyrically, he's better than 99% of blues writers out there. Anyone questioning his guitar playing has never seen him live on stage with Clapton, Guy, Vaughan, B.B. King and other greats where although still learning, can hold his own. The guy has a ridiculous talent. This album is rock/pop with a blues undertone, not straight blues. He's not trying to be anyone but himself, which many fans are having trouble with because they WANT him to bring back SRV from the dead when he's doing his own thing. Sorry guys. Expand your horizons, pop in the CD, and pay attention to the great things it has to offer - including excellent vocals, unique guitar melodies, and a very good LIVE sound. Keep it up John, go with what you love, and REAL music fans will be there to listen.
Free Music Review: John, TRY! to do this more often, ok? Hit: 5 Stars
I haven't heard all of John's CD's, but I have heard Room For Squares, I have TRY!, and I also have Continuum.
Sighhhhhhh.....
Needless to say there is a HUGE discrepancy between Squares and TRY! John, why do you do that? You are aiming for a 12 year old girl fan base in addition to blues/rock/good music fans? Argghhhhh!!! Doesn't make sense to me.
This CD is a fantastic, sublime, slippery ride thru a collection of great songs and glimpse into what must have been an even better show. Although every song has a great bluesy feel and a real groove, it seems that "Something's Missing" and "Daughters" have a slight lean toward his Squares style.
John, be careful. Do the right thing. Continuum is ok with me, it is for the most part a good CD, but the direction is teetering on regressing back to the music that 12 year olds are going to ask their parents for after hearing their 16 year old sister rave about it. Don't do it! Seems you could go either way...
John, let the blues in your blood prevail. TRY!
Free Music Review: *speechless* Hit: 5 Stars
This album is hands down the second best album of the year (The best being Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes)
There really isn't much to say. You just have to listen to it. But here are the few things that I do have to say:
*Vultures is the best song. ever.
*John wrote the songs on his previous albums years ago and he has since matured which is reflected on this album beautifuly (except for some reason some of his "fans" who have posted reviews here seem to have matured in looks but they haven't matured mentally and on the contrary their brain activities have decreased.)
*The music and vocals are so perfect that the only indication that this album is live is the screaming fans.
*John is a phenomenal guitar player. I can't even begin to describe.
*His voice is also perfection.
*He's doing what he loves with great passion. So I not only love his music, but I respect him too.
*May I remind everyone that he wrote all of these songs (Well, except for the cover songs)
*Buy this album.
