Those who are not familiar with the object on the cover might be forgiven for not knowing what it is. The tubular bell shown is one of the instruments of choice used by Mike Oldfield to conjure up the exotic surround-sound music on this disc. Anyone who has seen 'The Exorcist' has heard the Tubular Bells before, but just didn't realize what they were hearing.
Here it is in full-blown digital surround then, for the first time. I really love the DVD-Audio format and wish more people were familiar with it so the labels would release more content. Once you hear an album in 5.1 surround, there's literally no going back to plain-vanilla stereo.
I had never heard this entire album in its original CD form and now I have no desire to do so.
This disc is playable on DTS systems, dedicated DVD-Audio players (in high-resolution 96 kHz!) and on standard DVD players in stereo or 5.1 Dolby Digital surround if you feed it onto a decoder/receiver.
Great original music and a WOW format! I'm sure glad I got it new before the price went up. ;o)
