Free Music Review: Brilliant, No Matter How You View It
Hit: 5 Stars

Type O Negative were definitely an iconic band to emerge out of the 90's metal scene, and "Bloody Kisses" is the album that helped define their sound. For the most part, the band took a new approach with this album, embodying a Gothic style throughout the vast majority of it. Whether it would be the iconic tracks such as "Christian Woman" and especially "Black No. 1", every track is strong. However, what made Type O Negative their own unique band was that they didn't take everything seriously, and it shows. For example, "Black No. 1" managed to poke fun at Gothic dress stereotypes. Also, the vocals of the recently departed Peter Steele are completely unique, using a deep, melancholic voice with a great dynamic range.

As classic as this may be, I would encourage to try to get your hands on the original jewel case release, as the digipak omits "Kill All the White People" and "We Hate Everyone", despite how stylistically different they are compared to the rest of the album. However, if the hardcore punk styles aren't your cup of tea, the digipak release features "Suspended in Dusk". Whatever version you do get, you won't be disappointed, as this is the sound of a band that wasn't afraid to be their own.

Free Music Review: "Loving you was like loving the dead.."
Hit: 5 Stars

With such lines in the lyrics, how could one not find this album a true gem? Type O Negative is easily one of my favorite bands. Moving from an atmospheric punk sound, they created the most beautiful yet depressing metal I have heard in my life. On this album they have their finest hour. Instant classics such as Christian Woman and Black No. 1 are bound to be faves for the majority of listeners. Other faves for me are the title track, Summer Breeze, We Hate Everything, and Set Me On Fire.

What always catches me about this album is how the band makes music with such a dark sense of humor, making mockery of whatever the topic of the song is. For example: Christian Woman makes mockery of Christians; Black No. 1 pokes fun at goth girls, and Kill All The White People makes fun of racism. The music itself is very professional. Johnny Kelly is easily one of the better drummers today. Kenny plays a very melodic yet unsettling guitar, and Pete Steele's thundering voice and bass echo into your mind. The inclusion of keyboards only adds to the beauty of the music, and at times, makes it ever the more gloomy. A wonderful, first rate band and album. You must check this album out!! I also reccomend October Rust and World Coming Down.

Free Music Review: Bloody discs
Hit: 5 Stars

This is by far my favorite album of the ninties. It changed my opinion on the metal scene forever. Metal music was in a slump, bands like Pantera and Slayer, Metallica etc were getting stale and redundant. Then along came Type O Negative. This isn't their first release but it is by far their best. The later albums were a bit to polished for my tastes and the previous disc was a bit to much. Bloody Kisses is raw but the music has alot of depth to it. The soundscapes are brillant (ie: Summer Breeze, titletrack, Christian Woman).

There was alot of sarcasm, a Black Sabbath feel and some songs that seemed very sincere which is a rarity. I mean the songs could be total cheese but they sound sincere, a few of them that is. This is definatley the album to start off with. And if you like this get Paradise Lost's Draconian times next.

Just don't make the mistake and think of them as a goth band. They are more in the realm of old Priest, mixed with a lil Sabbath and a whole lot of prozac

Free Music Review: The Must-have Type O Negative album.
Hit: 5 Stars

Though releasing two previous albums, Type O Negative was virtually unheard of until "Bloody Kisses" emerged. The band's unique gothic melodies on this album put them in the limelight with a video, "Black No. 1" being played on Mtv. As well as a cover and a feature in virtually every metal magazine. This is the definite "first album" to buy from Type O Negative. I've listened to this album since I purchased it in 1994 and I have yet to get tired or bored of it. It is always in my CD case or being played. This will turn any metal/hard rock fan into a fan of Type O. If and when you purchase this album, see if everything I've said is anything but the undeniable truth.
