Free Music Notes for Dead AgainFree Music Review: DEAD AGAIN ROCKS YOU DOWN TO THE GROUND! Hit: 5 Stars
The boys from Brooklyn are back! Dead Again respectfully combines Type o's past with their future which appears as dark and gloomy as most expect! Pete Steele & crew give us a taste of everything that is Negative and what else can you ask for? Previous reviews downgraded the band a bit for too much mention of personal woes, demons(what dirges)?! As a huge fan of their doom & gloom riffs and masterful soundscapes, what would this music be without mentioning these type o things which are actually NEGATIVE(WAKE UP YOU CRITICAL JABRONI'S)! Again, everyone is entitled to their point of view, but mine is not trying to be biased....just true to this bands name and their awesome legacy which makes the gothic doom metal genre so eerrie, mysteriously dark, and intriguing!
As far as the new album goes, from start to finish this album delivers quite bite of darkness and leaves you intrigues whats coming next. From the Uncle Festerque speed demon/punked riffed Dead Again to the Bloody kissed sounds of All Hail And Farewell To Great Britian, each track kicks in the peaks of Heaven & depths of Hell with a vengeance that only an October Rusted Halloween could deliver. So it shall be written, so it shall be done! Everythings 10's and suspended in dusk here! T.O.N. and Dead Again are very much alive and well in 2007/pick it up now!
Free Music Review: worth the wait, for sure Hit: 5 Stars
I think too many people are trying to analyze this album in the context of the other albums, as in, "it's a little bit of slow, deep, and hard, mixed with some october rust, and a dose of bloody kisses, etc...." I think this album stands alone as a new classic and a testament to great song-writing, staying original after all these years but still with the distinct type o negative sound.
I'm a fan of the longer, funeral dirge-like TON songs, so "these three things" stands out to me as one of the better tracks, even with the unexpected anti-abortion lyrics! "she burned me down" and "hail and farewell to britain" are my other favs. of the ten songs, the only one i'm not a huge fan of is "an ode to locksmiths." i like the fact that, while there are "shorter" songs (as in under 8-15 min!), there are no filler tracks, as on all the other albums. that means more time for incredible songs. i was shocked that peter was doing a duet with a female vocalist i'd never heard of and honestly expected the worst out of "halloween in heaven" but tara vanflower actually does an excellent job and does not sound out of place with possibly one of the manliest sounding bands around! i could keep rambling about how much i like this album, but i'll just stop here! buy it!!
Free Music Review: Awesome release from the Drab Four! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a Type O fan since October Rust came out and have all their releases to date. I got this album on Tuesday and have listened to it about 8 times and I have to say I like what I hear. There is a little something for every fan of many types of hard rock and metal. Some songs are long and epic while others are short and punky. The title track and Tripping a Blind Man have a very aggressive style similar to Carnivore and Slow Deep and Hard. The Profits of Doom begins with an almost funeral doom, sludgy sound similar to Electric Wizard's Dopethrone, and then the sound evolves into more of a hard rock style. September Sun is a very pretty song and one of my favorites. Halloween in Heaven is another great song, guest vocalist Tara VanFlower sounds great. These Three Things is another multifaceted epic with some very cool parts. All you Pyretta Blaze fans will appreciate She Bruned me Down, another one of my favs, as is Some Stupid Tomorrow. The disc is rounded out by An Ode to Locksmiths and Hail and Farewell to Britian, both good, enjoyable songs. I would recommend this album not only to fans of Type O but to any fan of hard rock and metal, it will round out your CD collection nicely.
Free Music Review: Best Since "October Rust" Hit: 5 Stars
Awesome! Type O has been one of my favorite bands since middle school (I'm in my late twenties now) so I was expecting great things from this release--especially after the somewhat disappointing "Life Is Killing Me." Upon first listen I wasn't sure what to think--nothing really jumped out and grabbed me except for the title track. I don't know why, because upon second listen it was obvious that this album rocks! This is easily their best since "October Rust," and may even surpass it after a few more listens. The only track I have yet to really warm up to is "Tripping A Blind Man." I"m no musician so I can't get into details about why this or that song works so well, but rest assured that if you've liked any of Type O Negative's previous releases you will like this as well. As has always been the case with these guys, the sound of this album is immediately recognizable as Type O (same great guitar tone!), and yet it sounds nothing like their previous works. I really like the addition of the female vocals on "Halloween in Heaven" and hope they try a few more in this vein on their next album. No doubt this will go down as one of the best releases of '07.
Free Music Review: The Life Blood of Type O Negative's...DEAD AGAIN Hit: 5 Stars
If you want a great new cd buy this one. It is one of the years most anticipated albums especially from the fans of this awesome yet underrated band. With Peters' signature deep voice combined withe his effect driven bass along with the hard pounding of Johnny's drums and the sounds from Kenny's guitar combined with the wicked sounds coming from Josh's keys this is the album we have all been waiting for. It was definately worth the wait. Its an awesome cd to eat, drink, drive and do whatever else you want to do to. I am really looking forward to seeing (and hearing) some of these songs live. Especially the hard hitting sounds coming from Johnny behind the kit on These Three Things. It's going to knock down the house!!! Guest vocalist Tara Vanflower, contrasts perfectly with Peters voice on Halloween in Heaven. Profits of Doom...what can I say but the best new song I have heard so far this year. I could go on about each song but why should I when you are going to get it anyway. In short, buy it, you'll love it. If you don't, it will make a great coaster!!!
