Free Music Notes for Least Worst ofFree Music Review: One helluva album!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is certainly one of the best works of heavy metal in the recent past. A compilation of Type O Negative's greatest works spanning over a decade of musical talent. These guys were neither very fast nor too slow. They blended their compositions with an improvised and sophisiticated tune.
The album features their masterpieces --- love you to death, christian woman, cinnamon girl, my girlfriend's girlfriend and everything dies (...though they missed out on bloody kisses [a death in the family] which is one of my personal favourite and i think should have been inducted in the album).
The second last track of the album viz. Unsuccessfully coping with the natural beauty of infidelity is a MELODRAMATIC song in the true sense of the word. The song unravels beautifully...slow initially, then gaining pace in the middle and again slows down towards the end...its just wonderful to listen to their terrific improvisation of the song being interspersed with high and low.
However, the real icing on the cake is delivered by Peter Steele's baritone voice. He has sung all the songs with effortless brilliancy. His deep and intense sound has bounded all the songs together and has given them a common touch.
In a nutshell, this album, as no need to mention, is TON's greatest hit and is a must have for any metal buff. So don't waste your time, rather listen to this musical masterpiece and turn those wasted time into precious moments B-)
Free Music Review: 1st Time Listener Hit: 5 Stars
well, as a lot of other people have already said in their reviews of this wonderful album - it would be a great intro for a 1st time listener. i got this because i'd heard a lot of my friends talking about them & saying they were phenomenial, etc etc (they were right!) & i got the chance to get some new CDs & saw this title & asked someone to get it for me. & i didn't actually know this was a 'best of' until i saw it on their site. so, let me give my opinions: this album is excellent & i shall definitely follow these guys cuz what i've heard of them i like a lot. i actually listened to this while we were up in whitby, so it kinda went with the whole dracula/gothic atmosphere down there. i enjoy this because it's not screamy-death/black metal that sometimes i can't understand what they're saying & i can listen to this easily. if you see what i mean... anyway, for anyone who's thinking of buying some TON stuff, i'd definitely suggest this. it's good cuz if you're not sure which TON CD to buy you can check out this best of & feel you're getting the best of everything. sometimes bands get a little worse as new albums come out & sometimes they mature, get a little better. i think TON will continue to make great songs long after this. Free Music Review: Amazing to say the least Hit: 5 Stars
I was hesitant to buy this album at first being that I had most of these tracks on earlier Typ O Negative CD's. Eventually, I caved and got it. My only regret is that I didn't get this CD earlier! Listening to it once, I knew it was my new favorite. It's a great mix of their earlier albums. I also have to say that "12 Black Rainbows" is simply a phenominal song. This CD is for any Type O fan. It's great for someone new to their music, because it has a great variety of their tracks, old and new. It really lets you get a feel for their style. On the other end of the spectrum are the veteran listeners like myself. It's great to listen to this album and hear the different versions of the previously released tracks. You can see how their music has evolved over the years and is still as original and powerful as it was in the beginning. The only criticism I could even imaginge for this album is that I like the "Origin Of The Feces" version of Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty Of Infadelity better that the "Slow Deep and Hard" version that appears on this album. But [heck], that's just personal opinion. I still have to give this album 5 stars and say it is a must have. Buy it, you wil not regret it! ~MT~
Free Music Review: Saves CD swapping Hit: 5 Stars
These are hands-down some of my favorite TON tracks, if nothing else, it saves you switching around CDs to hear favorites. Yeah, that's lazy.
Type O does things with music that no one else does. There is a layered quality to it. They make "big" music, if that makes any sense. Listen to the CD, you'll get it.
This disc also includes "Hey Pete", a gothed-out version of Hendrix's "Hey Joe". You would think that it is done, as many TON songs are, with tongue planted firmly in cheek ("Hey Pete, where you going with that axe in your hand?" and so forth) However, I find this remake to bring out the true air of desolation and sadness of the song, and it conveys the loneliness of "Joe" (Pete) far better than Jimi's. Yes, better than Hendrix's. I said it, I'll say it again. Don't call me a blasphemer.
I love these guys, for their contribution to music in general. No one else is like them, and no one else does what they do.
Free Music Review: Type O Negative--The Least Worst Band Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a Type O Negative fan for years and years, one of the first bands I ever got into. Let me tell you, I may have most of these songs already, but this is one fine CD!Like most other reviewers, I found the shortened versions of some of the songs tobeunsatisfying, and like others have said, it makes me glad I have all the other CD's. Also, the failure to include Summer Breeze, a Type O classic, kind of depressed me, but these flaws alone cannot overcome a great CD such as this. For new Type O fans, you are hearing simply the best of the best. Songs like "Cinnamon Girl" and "Everything Dies" have been my favorites for quite some time. The new tracks are even more awesome. If you are interested in trying out Type O Negative, I suggest you start with this CD first, it gives you a great idea of what the band is all about and the CD is just one of those ones where you DO NOT have to skip a track at all.
