Free Music Review: The Dream is Dead?
Hit: 5 Stars

If that's what Type O Negative themselves consider the case, I'd have to strongly disagree. Even though this album goes in some new directions from their last few releases, "Life is Killing Me" has material that shouldn't disappoint old or new Type O fans. In some cases, the music goes back to the "New York hardcore" period of their writing. Songs like "I Like Goils" and "Angry Inch" seem reminiscent of songs like "Kill All the White People" and the style of "Slow, Deep and Hard." Also, the pace of the music seems to have picked up as well. A few songs still carry that old Type O slow drudge, though. Songs like "Todd's Ship Gods" and "Anesthesia" seem to have the speed and writing style as if off of "World Coming Down" or "October Rust." The vocals of Peter Steele are great, as usual. The choruses on this album are incredible. The music all-together is really catchy and less on the depressive side. There's still a lot of downtrodden moments, but not as many as, say, "Bloody Kisses" or "World Coming Down." It's too bad there are no ten minute epics on this album. (Come on, who doesn't like "Haunted?") "Life is Killing Me" is a very solid release. This album will be very welcome in your goth/metal/whatever the hell you listen to collection. I just hope the special edition gets released sometime in the US.

Free Music Review: A triumphant return for these legends
Hit: 5 Stars

It has been 5 years since the last Type O Negative album, and many thought that Type O was done for good. If you thought that I can not stress how wrong you were. Although World Coming Down was a very good album it still did not live up to their albums like Bloody Kisses or October Rust. This newest release "Life is Killing Me" is in my opinion their best album since Bloody Kisses, and their second best release overall. Unlike World Coming Down, this entire album is good with no weak, boring songs. This album kicks off with an upbeat number "I dont wanna be me", followed by more good songs like "less than zero" and "I like goils". However, this album hit its peak in the middle with tracks 7-10, which are 4 of the best songs Type O has ever written. These four songs, "How could she?", "Life is Killing Me", "Nettie", and (We Were) Electrocute" are all unbelievable songs that remind you why you started listening to Type O Negative in the first place. In conclusion, this is the first Type O Negative CD to actually challenge Bloody Kisses for their best album. In the end this album is right behind Bloody Kisses, and shows that Type O Negativ are still here, and have officially sealed themselves as music legends.

Free Music Review: This is an IMMORTAL album
Hit: 5 Stars

Type O Negative. Images of dark candle lit rooms, and dark moonlit forests come to mind. But if that was all, then this would be just another first rate goth metal band. But there's so much more...

Namely, unmistakable Beatles and Sabbeth infulences, as well as a good does of industrial tinging. This makes for one heck of a unique album. Basically what we have here is a perfect blend of October Rust and World Comming Down- distored chaos one second, and dark bliss the next.

As if incredible music wasn't enough, the lyrics are also some of my favorites. The biting, tounge-in cheek-humor is true genius. The useage of analogys are very effective. And while perhaps a bit anti-religion (a horrid cliche), at leas they mannage to ask intelligent questions about it.

Everyone says it about every album they listen to, but this album really grows on you. I honestly wasn't too fond of it for a while, then the brilliant song writing just set in, and I was enchanted.

In the clean vocal music section, Peter Steele has to be in the top 5 throats out there (Warrel Dane and Matt Barlow, and Maynard being his only betters I can think of at the moment). Just listen to the opening lines on Nettie, and you will have goosebumps, garunteed.

I would like to close saying that- NU METAL BLOWS!!!

Free Music Review: Amazing Album
Hit: 5 Stars

i think that this could quite possibly be TON's finest work ever. as one of the few individuals who was brought on board with their first album, "slow deep and hard," i grew to love Type O Negative, and while i admired them for the music that they created, i will be honest in saying that i was a little dissapointed with the two albums that followed Bloody Kisses (don't get me wrong, they are by all means execellent albums in their own right). however, i didnt know what to expect this time around, because their past three albums were all different. i was nervous, but the minute the album finished playing, i was totally blown away. this album is their masterpiece. it stands above everything else that they've created, and successfully incorporates aspects of everything that they have create to date. the standout tracks (in my opinion) are the two most emotional ones, Nettie and Anesthesia. However it cannot be overlooked that the entire album is amazing; no track seems to be out of place when compared to the others, and everything mannages to flow rather smoothly. i would highly reccomend anyone looking for a great album to consider giving this one a spin.

Free Music Review: Hate, Sorrow, and Laughter
Hit: 5 Stars

Type O Negative have been one of my favorite bands for eight years now. The only album that dissapointed me somewhat, was World Coming Down though that album still contained some amazing songs it simply seemed to lag.
This album is currently my favorite because with it, Type O Negative has succesfully blended there dark and sorrowful themes with thier unique sense of humor. By listening to this album it is easy to establish that these guys don't take themselves too seriously. I can understand how some fans will feel that this is not up to previous standards set by such records as Bloody Kisses and October Rust both of which are amazing records.
It is true that this album has some songs that exclude the depths that Type O has previously explored, some examples of this would be I Like Goils, Angry Inch, and Electrocute, all of which I happen to love. They are however countered by such songs as Nettie, Anesthesia, the dream is dead, Above All things(my personal favorite), which all explore the same anti-emotion and antihuman themes of Type O.
It continues to amaze me how these guys come up with this type of music in a setting such as Brooklyn.
