Free Music Review: Taking a second, haunting listen
Hit: 5 Stars

I absolutely hated this album when I first heard it. I had heard "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" off of an independent radio station near me. Since it was upbeat and somewhat dark sounding, I figured I'd give it a try. I had already heard the cover of "Black Sabbath", and not expecting a full album of this slow pace, I picked it up used. I was so disappointed. At the time, I was kind of depressed, a sophomore in high school, and I needed something even more depressing. Generally, I'd reach for Cannibal Corpse or some extreme death metal. The growling and screaming usually did the trick. I put this cd in and sat in a corner in my classroom (we were watching a movie at the time) and I could only listen to the same two tracks, the previously mentioned one and "Wolf Moon" solely because Peter Steele's voice on that track freaked me out. Safe to say, I sold this cd and moved on.

Now, some 9 years later, I picked it up AGAIN, trying to give it a second whirl. I am not disappointed this time, and I wish I had never gotten rid of it. Sure, the pace is slow and dreary, but the fact that it still scares me is unbelievable. The songs, the lyrics, the vocals, the keyboards, all of it fits the mood. This album is unbelievable and should be heard by anyone who likes music.

The best song, by far, is still "Wolf Moon". Listen to this late at night, alone, and in a car ride through the country and you, too, will get shivers down your spine.

Free Music Review: Quite the Doom Metal Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Type O Negative is a band known for its moody spooky doom metal sound. Whether sometimes slighly corny the music itself is still amazing. This, next to World Coming Down, is one of my favorites by them. 90% of the songs on this album are at least good to great. The cd itself starts out with a slight joke to kind of get you acquainted with the band and their jokely nature. It then kicks out right into music with a pretty awesome opener "Love You To Death". The best songs on the cd, or at least my personal favorites are at the top "Wolf Moon", "Be My Druidess", "Burnt Flowers Fallen", and "In Praise Of Bacchus". The albums pretty much loaded with great tracks. Here's my ratings... (excluding interludes)

3. Love You To Death - 9.5/10
4. Be My Druidess - 10/10
5. Green Man - 10/10
6. Red Water (Christmas Mourning) - 7.5/10
7. My Girlfriend's Girlfriend - 8.5/10
8. Die With Me - 9/10
9. Burnt Flowers Fallen - 10/10
10. In Praise Of Bacchus - 10/10
11. Cinnamon Girl - 8/10
13. Wolf Moon - 10/10
14. Haunted - 6/10

Overall : 88% B+

Since the last song's the weakest it's not a great way to end the album but the amazing songs on the rest of the cd make up for it. It's just too bad "Wolf Moon" wasn't the last track. Anyway the whole ambiance of the entire album is amazing, that's why the cd still gets 5 stars. A really really awesome listen.

Free Music Review: Best Type O album ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love Type O Negative. Peter Steele is my hero. I believe he is the living being that is the closet to a god. I believe this is Type O Negative's best album. The albu has two intros, the first one is a static sound, the second the men of TON intro'ing the album. Kenny (I think it's Kenny) says "We spent the last few months getting high while doing this record", and I replied saying "We can tell". The first actual song, "Love You To Death", is my favorite song on this album. It has "classic" written all over it. Peter's vocals are amazing as ever! I love his falsetto screch at around 5:45. Other great songs here are "Haunted", "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend", and "Cinanmon Girl" (also in CG, listen to it around 0:09 to hear something strange...). I love all these songs, but the aove mentioned are my favorites. This is a classic. If you like metal, TON, or just good music in general, you'll love this album.

Free Music Review: One of the Top 25 Records of All Time
Hit: 5 Stars

There is always gonna be debate over whether any record is good or not...opinions differ, tastes differ...what is ground breaking one day is cliche one year later...the goth fans can argue here all they want, but this review is for the general music fan. THis is a SUPERB album, which EVERYONE should own and cherish, which will unfortunately not get the recognition it deserves in our disgustingly superficial and commercial music industry. My musical taste is diverse, from classic rock, to R&B, to trance and techno, to ambient...well you get the idea, but this is one of the best albums of all time, up there with Floyd's "wish you were here" or the Beatles "Sgt Pepper" (It's that good). Open your mind and enjoy the ride. Steele's toungue and cheek humour remains, but interwoven in a thick, lush masterpiece of an arrangement, and songs that can tickle your funny bone, but more likely hit a nerve deep in your heart. Do some research into Steele's lyrics and follow his warped cynism across the rest of his albums, and you will appreciate this release all the more. If you can tell me of any recent record that is actually worth listening to all the way through, I'd be glad to hear it.

Directions: Insert Disc, Press Play, Turn Volume Up (You need a powerful stereo to fully enjoy this one), Close eyes and be whisked away (Sing along, if your vocal box permits)

Free Music Review: type o negative are gods
Hit: 5 Stars

i started listening to type o negative about 3 or 4 years ago. the first album i ever purchased was "bloody kisses." my interest in "gothic" types of music led me to check out type o. when i first heard the cd, i knew there was something very special about it. then, eventually, i bought "october rust". hoping that this album would be even half as cool as bloody kisses, i was engrossed in this wonderful new material.
type o did not disappoint me in any way.
october rust is my favorite in personal type o taste.
although bloody kisses and world coming down are both great in every way imaginable, october rust still holds first place.
there is just something about the album that ensues a feeling of melancholy and sadness, and also feeling of spirituality.
yes, perhaps i do like type o just a little "too" much.
but if you want a great album to listen to, in any mood, at any time, in any given situation, this is the one for you.
and as others have said, this album stands the test of time.
to this day, i still listen to october rust at least once a day.
if you are angry, sad, or depressed, october rust has a song to fit each mood.
buy this album, and i don't think you will find disappoinment.
type o rules!
