Free Music Review: The Singular Best Album Ever, it couldn't be any better!
Hit: 5 Stars

From the day I was introduced to this band by my cousin, I fell in love with them. It's like a collection of all the possible human emotions put into music, sweet, sweet music. There isn't one bad song, this album is the singular most perfect thing on Earth! Songs like "Die With Me", "Wolf Moon" and the catchy tongue in cheek single "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" are filled with Melodies that stick in your head and make you want to run upstairs and listen to them right now, while the epic and aptly titled "Haunted" almost makes you cry listening to it, its so beautiful and melodic. Also Check out the upbeat (for Type O) pace and infectious melody of "Be My Druidess" which tells the tale of a romping session in the woods at some pagan function or other. Wicked..."Burnt Flowers fallen" has something like 4 lines in it, but so what, you never notice cos it just takes hold of you. My girlfriend and I ...love listening to "Love You to Death"..., as it is probably, the BEST AND MOST PERFECT song ever. If God himself had ever written a song, it would go something like this.
All that's left to say is, Buy all Type O Negatives albums,...[and] play them religiously...BR> Good Night and Party on

Free Music Review: Take your time with this one....
Hit: 5 Stars

I first bought "October Rust" by Type O Negative when it came out in 96. I had already owned "Bloody Kisses" by the band and I only periodically listened to that. I didn't like "October Rust" my first few listens. I thought it was too soft compared to "Bloody Kisses" and the album just didn't quite click to a young teenager looking for something that "rawks". I kept the CD in my collection, and for a while, it just collected dust. As I got older, and my musical tastes broadened, I revisited October Rust. The album is a masterpiece. The production is perfect, and creates a lush, gothic atmospere. Silver's keyboards are placed right up front, and Steele's vocal delivery can be gut-wrenchingly emotional at times and toungue-in-cheek at others. This is an album to listen to when you're alone, with the lights out. The joke at the beginning kind of gets in the way, so you should always start at track 3, "Love You To Death". Highlights include "Love You To Death", "Red Water", "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend", "Wolf Moon", and "Burnt Flowers Fallen"

Free Music Review: Oh yes!
Hit: 5 Stars

I listen to a broad variety of music, so when I heard "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" on the radio one day, I decided to give Type O a shot, and what a wise decision that was! "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" is one of the fastest and hardest tracks on the album, so I was surprised to hear how different some of the others were. Sometimes you think you're listening to a classical arrangement with some gothic guitarplaying going on. Other times it's more like chanting. Lead singer Peter Steele must have one of the deepest voices in existence! Overall, the album has one of the richest atmospheres I've ever heard. Type O Negative seems to appeal to some primal instinct deep within the human soul, some ancient qualities long forgotten. Steele deals with the dark side of things in his lyrics, but deep within I sense a celebration of love (although it certainly is well hidden). Death and despair gets turned into art (or functionless art that is nothing but tolerated vandalism according to the band).

No matter what, this is a dark and beautiful masterpiece. Well worth your materialistic means of payment. In other words: get the thing!

Free Music Review: Music to Make Love By
Hit: 5 Stars

...would have been an equally appropriate title for October Rust. You don't normally think of "metal" as being music to seduce a woman by, but this album brings that old assuption into question. Lush, atmospheric soundscapes and dark, sensual lyrics over a backbone of slow, heavy riffs topped with Peter Steele's trademark "deep-enough-to-make-your-girlfriend-swoon" vocals pervade here. Present also is another Type O trademark: a tounge-in-cheek lack of complete seriousness, sarcastic irony delivered with a completely straight face.

My personal picks on this album are "Love You to Death," "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," "Cinnamon Girl," "Wolf Moon," and "Haunted." But those are only my favorites. The entire album is great, listenable music, ideal stuff if you're looking to "ease" a non-metal friend or sweetheart into this, the greatest of all music genres.

The key to this album's greatness is the fact that it stands the test of time. After four, five years, this CD still gets frequent rotation in my home and on the road... especially when I'm out to set a mood...
