Free Music Notes for October RustFree Music Review: In Praise of the Green Man Hit: 5 Stars
Many good detailed reviews have already been posted on here. I really can't add too much more. October Rust continues to be one of my all time favorite albums, especially in the Autumn. Type O is a unique gothic rock band delivering chillingly haunting melodies of sex, pain, love, hate and death intertwined with a passion for Mother nature. Vocalist Peter Steele (whose voice I can only explain humorously as that of Dracula at the opera) delivers a unique wit to his style, something that is usually absent with "Goth" music. Humor is evident on the first two tracks and of course on "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend". Every song on here is hauntingly beautiful. Peter can express emotions that can bring me to tears on "Red Water" and send chills down my spine on "Love You to Death". The only other vocalist out there that can stir such emotion in me is Trent Reznor. All this and at same time, Type O Negative is somehow heavy enough to be hard rock. You would never think that "four dead trees" could sound so good! (Peter once chose these words to describe the look of the band) Thank you TON for this magical collection of emotions.
Free Music Review: Amazing, Relaxing, and Emotional Hit: 5 Stars
This is the one album I've listened to most out of any other. The album starts out with 38 second track of a 60 hertz hum which then leads into a little introduction from the band laughing about the little joke. Personally I think they should have kept these two tracks off the album. The third track "Love You to Death" is amazing. The vocal melodies and guitars work together perfectly. Later on in the album, they do a cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl". They did a great job keeping the feeling of the Neil Young version, yet giving it a whole new sound you'll enjoy. Still after 8 years of listening to this album, I still hear things that I've never noticed. I heard something about the band using 40 or more recording tracks for some of the songs in the studio. You can hear it too; you hear layers and layers of orchestras, pianos, sound effects, and everything you can think of. They all work together perfectly too. The production behind it is amazing. I have yet to hear an album that even comes close to it. Buy this album, it's different in a good way. Nothing else sounds anything like it.
Free Music Review: A Criminally Underated Album and Band Hit: 5 Stars
Type O Negative is one of those bands that is known to a select group of metal fans, yet deserves the status of such bands as Tool and Slipknot. Peter Steele is a genius, and if you do not agree with that statement, listen to October Rust. If you are skeptical, listen to Bloody Kisses. If you are still skeptical, I'm sorry but you do not understand what quantifiable, substantive art is.
TON has the ability to capture emotions and put them on display for your listening pleasure as no band can. They are unique. They are absolutely original. And if you disagree, you have lost already. Because NO band sounds like TON.
However, this review is for October Rust. Lets make it clear: This album is one of the GREATEST METAL ALBUMS EVER MADE. The album as a whole brings out the darkness, despair, anger, hope, and ecstasy, that we as human beings experience. If you look at life through a pair of rosy glasses, this album might not be for you. If you revel in the deeper emotions in life, this album is definitely for you. You must purchase it at once.
Free Music Review: chase them away..... Hit: 5 Stars
It would take years to find the right words to describe this album. Type O Negative is the ONLY band capable of pulling off the self-hate, lost love aspect of music. And what a job they do of it. At first, the album doesnt seem to be all that great. However after listening to it 1000 times in a row, I saw the excellence in the music. If you are suicidal, DO NOT listen to this album, because I can guarantee that you will end up dead after Red Water. The one aspect that this album does lack however, is a definitive guitar sound. Although every other aspect skyrockets off the charts. Type O Negative does not NEARLY get the noteriety they deserve, but staying underground is what I am sure keeps Peter Steele so depressed. Thus being able to produce such a masterpiece. If you like this album I HIGHLY recommend World Coming Down, that album has the one thing October Rust didnt, a definitive guitar sound. Also Bloody Kisses, that album being heavier than October Rust, yet not straying from the path Type O Negative is so noted for.
Free Music Review: ... Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of my top few favorite albums. I have owned it for nearly six years now and the feelings conveyed are the same now as they were when it was new. The first twenty or so times I listened to it, I was confused and perhaps ashamed of some of the lyrics, but not anymore. The lyrics are without a doubt the best part of this music. Steele's vocalization of his words is truly unique and exquisite. I have rarely seen a songwriter who has so much to say and says it so well. He does not play games with you or get stifled by himself. I love this album because I assosicate it with so many raw emotions and experiences, and it never fails to take me back to places and times and people. Track number eight chokes me up every time and I hate that. The lyrics from Green Man read like Whitman and the melodies are many things at once. Beautiful, naked, dark, intelligent, and haunting all describe them perfectly. October Rust is as un-fluffy as anything can be and it has a lot of power. I love this album.
