Free Music Notes for Slow Deep & HardFree Music Review: This is Awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD after buying World Coming Down, Bloody Kisses, Life is Killing Me and October Rust. I read about The Origin of the Feces being a fake Live concert of Slow, Deep, And Hard, and thought i better buy this one first as i might not like it. (I was very wrong, i love it.) Anyway, now i have Origin of the Feces and that is also great. I think Type O are a band that you can almost chill out too. Kinda rock/metal/alternative. But this CD, Slow, Deep and Hard, is Punky in parts, but also...For example, on songs like "Unsuccessfully coping with the beauty of Infidelity" and "Gravitational Constant"...The songs are long, and go through so many changes. Some of the changes are so good, but even so, you don't want to fast forward it up to the "good" bits. Simply because every bit is a "good" bit. If that makes sense. I think it would to Type O fans. But anyway.
Type O Negative are one of my favourite bands along with (the very different) Meshuggah, and Strapping Young Lad, through to Pig Destroyer and Vital Remains. This is awesome, and speaking directly to Type O fans, if you see this album, buy it. You just won't be disappointed. 5/5
Free Music Review: Slow, Deep, Hard, and Brilliant! Hit: 5 Stars
This album rocks! It is brilliant! I first heard TON on the FvJ soundtrack and got curious. I just bought this CD today. I'm listening to it right now and it is great. I haven't heard the last 3 yet, but I'm sure they're great too. This album is not like the song on the soundtrack, but still pretty damn sweet. I like how it is long for 7 actual tracks. This album switches between slow, gothic beats to sudden quick punk rock beats with very un-PC lyrics. Which is good 'cuz I would rather say poor person than a person with a negative cash flow position as George Carlin (The man!) once put it. This album is dark and sinister. I love the diversity and the length. Most 7 track albums aren't anywhere near this long. It is definitely worth a listen and I hope to get the rest of the TON discography. Oh, I almost forgot that when my mom saw this album, she had no idea who it was, but my cousin said that they rock too, so I think that it's great to know another TON fan. Buy this disc, or listen to it at a friend's house and then buy the disc.
Free Music Review: Negativity defined... Hit: 5 Stars
Let's get off to my only complaint about this album..the production is kinda RAW...but it's certainly better than alot of other albums from it's time...this is one heavy hateful cd...and if you can't stomach this ...:-) Petey's old New York crossover/hardcore thrash band(that was HARDCORE)...songs like "Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity","Der Untermensch", and "Xero Tolerance" will have you calling up your ever so beloved ex-girlfriends and blaring those into her ears.."I know you're ******* someone else!" This is a bleak and dismal album...and Pete is really ticked off...excellent drum loops and Pete's classic heavy bass lines are all so memorable...this is one evil album...get it you wimp! If you can't stomach the hatred and dismay... get outa my face.:-P
Free Music Review: unsuccessfully coping with the fact that my cd was stolen Hit: 5 Stars
The first cd I heard by TON was October Rust, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but when I saw the back cover of this album I had to buy it. Unsuccessfully coping is the absolute best break-up song I have ever heard. The mood change towards the end when he says "You make me hate myself" This changes the entire theme of the song. My favorite song on this album however is Gravitational Constant. I had heard the shorter version of this on Origin of The Feces and it does not compare. This song is truly wonderful, lyrics wise especially. Type O Negative have extremely good senses of humor, as exemplified by the little goofy songs they do (see song 1 on October Rust) It's nice to see a group with immense talent and a sense of humor too.
Free Music Review: Type O Negative's first masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
For those who think slow lush gothic rock was all TON was about, this album might come as a surprise. This recording is much angrier and misanthropic rather than all gloom and bittersweet romanticism. For those who don't know, Peter Steele originally came from speedcore/thrash metal band Carnivore. Alot of the hardcore thrash influence spilled over on to this album. The lyrics are pretty much about hatred, murder, cheating girlfriends, social leaches, and ofcourse self hatred and depression. Musically I'd consider it a very strange mix of hardcore Thrash, the gloomy Gothic rock they'd later be known for, and a bit of Doom Metal. The lyrics are quite offensive, but are all handled with tongue-in-cheek sarcasm.
