Free Music Review: And you thought October Rust was good
Hit: 5 Stars

Oh My God...An unbelievable record from an unbelievable band....World Coming Down, while set at durge speed, will pump up fans at the speed of light..It opens with the typical "joke" track, "Skip It" which lives up to its name...on to "White Slavery" an organ driven anthem that is the only real dissapointment of the record...a fan would expect a great song like "Christian Women" or "Love You To Death" to open an album but instead this track is boring...now starts the real album...next is "Sinus", a demented intro to "Everyone I Love Is Dead" which is so awsome you will want to want to listen again...I did... "Who Will Save The Sane " follows sporting some sarcastic and humorous lyrics as well as a catchy chorus.."Liver" starts off the title track, a ten minutes plus loathing track that leads into "Creepy Green Light", whose theme and instrumentalism can only make one remember "Black Number One"...next "Everything Dies" whos lyrics, similar to "Everyone...", continue the albums depressing tone...after the break "Lung" the next three songs are absolute GEMS!!! "Pyretta Blaze" is a little faster and will get stuck in your head as fast as "Enter Sandman" ... the album is finished with the excellent Beatles cover(s) in the "Day Tripper " Medely...In between is the records absolute classic.. "All Hallows Eve" a collage of musical and lyrical mastery which is up there with "Black No 1" and "Christian Women" as the best Type O Song in the catolog....what an experience from start to finish!!!!

Free Music Review: Slow, deep, and harder on the soul than ever before..
Hit: 5 Stars

.. because Type O Negative has come back with a harsh slap to the faces of those that thought they would procure October Rust II, exactly as they did when they created October Rust -- they shocked their following by not making Bloody Kisses II. I praise Peter Steele, Kenny Hickey, Josh Silver and Johnny Kelly for not simply punching in on the proverbial time clock and manifesting music that sounded like a regurgitated opus of haunting, atmospheric dirges.

Many people mention that this work goes back to their "roots," the album Slow, Deep and Hard. Indeed, it does sound more like that album than it does to October Rust -- or even Bloody Kisses. But from what I have seen and heard, people *loved* Slow, Deep and Hard. People also adored Bloody Kisses and October Rust, but Slow... has always been many a person's favorite Type O album when it came to slow, dirge-like songs of virulence, sadness and love, plus a plethora of other emotions. Thus far, I've enjoyed all of Type O's albums, and this one does not escape that list of liked albums.

I personally like the songs "Everyone I Love is Dead," "Who Will Save the Sane?," "World Coming Down," "Creepy Green Light," "Everything Dies" and "All Hallows Eve." I also like "White Slavery," "Pyretta Blaze" and "Day Tripper," but not as much as the other songs. "Sinus," "Liver" and "Lung" may indeed be filler, but they're pretty funny and were formed by Josh. So you people out there complaining about "Where's Josh?!"... he's there, on tracks 3, 6 and 10.

Free Music Review: Like a Fungus - This Album May Grow on you...
Hit: 5 Stars

To me, OCTOBER RUST was nothing short of an absolute masterpiece - original and darkly beautiful in its sound and imagery. Sure, there are those fans that would call it commercial and such.. But let's face it folks - Most of THOSE fans can't take anything more musically-sophisticated than 'songs' with two distorted chords and yelling passing for singing... (Which ANY talentless, rehearsing garage-band can play) - Type O' is much, MUCH better than that, & if they could ever get their music on the radio - then God bless em' We need more bands like them on the radio as far as I'm concerned.. (But perhaps it's better that they're NOT on the radio for that matter - radio being the predictable mess that it is...) Which brings me to this album. NO - It's NOT QUITE October Rust, nor would I expect it to be. It is indeed, a much more stripped-down affair - though there are more lushful momments like GREEN LIGHT which relives the atmosphere of O.R. from time to time, and more often then not, - the lyrics are better & more intimate than the last album. Overall, though I also admit to initially being a little disappointed with the more sparse, riff-oriented approach to 'World Coming Down', after a few more listenings, this album definitely began to grow on me BIG TIME. So, to any other TON fans out there that are a bit put off by this album - TAKE YOUR TIME, & GIVE IT A FEW MORE LISTENS... You may start to hear things in it you didn't notice the first time through... (& to Peter & the Guys - Thanks for your work. It means a lot to us - So keep at it for just a little while longer... :O)

Free Music Review: Type O Negative At Their Darkest
Hit: 5 Stars

The music on World Coming Down strongly reflects a difficult period in Peter Steele's life in which family members passed away. Unfortunately, Pete himself recently passed away from heart failure. Instead of making a full blown testimonial to pay tribute, I'm reviewing this underrated gem of an album. Probably the reason why I love World Coming Down is because it was the first record I ever listened to from Type O. I guess there are some that found it to be too depressing, and depending on the mood at the time, it can be. The subject matter is very dark as is the delivery. The tongue-in-cheek humor that the band's best known for was brought down to a minimum here in favor of a more serious tone. All in all though, the album is very catchy, there isn't a dull moment to be found anywhere if you're a fan. Hell, if you're just starting, I'd say go with this record first then get Bloody Kisses. If you get Bloody Kisses, you can't go wrong with the Top Shelf Edition because it's remastered, has the original tracklisting and features a bonus cd of extra tracks as well as the "Suspended In Dusk" track from the reduced digipak version.

As I'm typing this, it's been less than 24 hours since the news of Pete's death, and I'm very saddened. As he was an integral part of the band, it's likely to be the end of Type O Negative. I do hope that the band or at least a new incarnation may someday carry on as Peter Steele can never be replaced, but if Alice In Chains can continue three years later after the death of Layne Staley, then why not Type O Negative?

Free Music Review: My personal favorite from Type O
Hit: 5 Stars

This was my first taste of Type O Negative. I didnt truly know what to expect, but when you find a cd of a band you want to try on clearance at your head shop for 7 bucks, you dont pass up. On my first listen, I wasnt too impressed. Everything seemed way too sluggish for my tastes, especially White Slavery. After a few listens, I noticed how truly great this band was. The way they mix such depressing topics (love lost, death and drug addiction) with such beautiful melody was something that made me appreciate them more. Pete Steele is without doubt one of my favorite vocalists of all time, mixing such a cynical sense of humor with his deep and beautiful singing. The rest of the band is equally good, especially Kenny Hickman, chugging out heavy rhythms on his guitar, backed by Johnny Kelly's impressive drumming and Josh Silver's keyboards, which give the songs an even more unique flavor. My favorite tracks on the cd include "Everyone I Love..","Everything Dies," "Creepy Green Light", "White Slavery," and "Pyretta Blaze." "Everything Dies" has such a beautiful melody and lyrics that I can relate to; my first listen to it brought tears to my eyes. This cd doesnt stray too far from my changer, nor do the rest of their albums. One of the most talented and unique bands playing today. A must have!
