Free Music Notes for Golden Arms Redemption

Free Music Review: Nice production and guest spots help U-God find solo Redemption(which he instantly lost with his next release)
Hit: 3 Stars

What can you say about U-God? I love the Wu Tang Clan just as much as the next hip-hop enthusiast but let's be honest, there's been at least one time when you where listening to a Wu project and you wondered to yourself how exactly U-God got to be part of one of the greatest rap groups ever? My guess is that he's either one of the coolest cats around OR that he has some highly embarassing photos of the RZA stashed away in his possession. Probably the former though, I mean check out the back of this album for instance... U-God in all of his glory, wearing a Wu-Tang super hero outfit(including fake muscles and everything... looks like a leftover prop from Joel Schumachers and Val Kilmers awful Batman movie LOL!) and playing it completely serious! It's like the rest of the Clan told him that it would look really awesome half-jokingly, but he took it serious and the rest is history, emblazoned proudly on the back of his solo debut for all time. Add in the fact that Golden Arms uses his intro to rap acappella about how other rappers are "corns" in the rhythm of Gloria Gaynors hit "I Will Survive," and it becomes obvious that he's just gotta be the coolest dude in the buroughs... why else would RZA be involved? With Redemption, U-God finally got his chance to release a solo album(the only member that hadn't by this point was Masta Killa) but unfortunately it came at a time when the RZA was taking a step back from production credits on much of the solo material and the begining of the end was nearing for the Wu's former heights. The RZA did executive produce though(and provided the decent track "Turbo Charge") and I don't know how involved he was in the overall beat selection, but the beats here are pretty strong. Songs like "Turbulence," "Glide(produced by Inspectah Deck?!)," "Bizarre," and "Pleasure Or Pain" flat out bang in fact, while the rest are still good enough to keep your finger off the skip button(no matter how hard U-God tries to push you to that point at times). Sure he rhymes incoherantly for most of the album and ultimately is outshined by the production and all of the guest MC's(The Rebel INS, Raekwon, Method Man, Leatha Face, and Hell Razah), and yet, Redemption is still far from the worst solo album ever released from the Wu stable(and the only worthwhile U-God release still to this day).

Free Music Review: Stop Doggin U-God
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm so tired of everyone bashing U-God. No, he might not be the sharpest blade of the Wu-Tang but he's still talented and this album proves it. He's highly underrated. To be honest, the album does have its flaws. Soul Dazzle is not a strong track even though it was a single and Dats Gangsta could have been cut altogether. Especially the long intro. For this reason I'm not giving it the usual 5 stars of a Wu-Tang release. Other than those flaws its an excellent album. Pleasure and Pain is a great track and so is Knockin At The Door. Great beat on that one. The track that stands out the most is Shell Shock. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm standing in the aftermath of a nuclear war. There's total destruction and devastation around me and this song could be the soundtrack to a nuclear holocaust. I can't think of anyone other than U-God whose voice and vocals go perfectly with that beat. To be honest I've never heard a beat like it before or since. It also showcases U-God's lyrical ability. The last song, The Night The City Cried is also great. U-God tells a dark, twisted and sinister story and this track also proves his lyrical ability. Anyone who downs U-God as the weakest link in the clan should seriously listen to this album in its entirety. Remember, he is a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, one of if not the greatest rap groups in history and he's a member for a good reason. Peace!!!

Free Music Review: I'm a WU Fan too, but $32 for a USED REDEMPTION?!?!
Hit: 3 Stars

Once upon a time, I owned this album around '99-2000, and I marginally liked the flow and beats. So, why when I come back to re-buy on some nostalgia tip, I see the cheapest as $32.00 for a USED Redemption Cd? MF Doom's DOOMSDAY had to same problem & they were supposed to re-issue that one. With MP3 and other downloads on the rise as is, they need to let these CDs go before they become the next 8 track tapes of music devices.

Free Music Review: Not Great, but, Not Bad
Hit: 2 Stars

I love his voice, I love the beats, I don't understand the vocals on this, his long awaited solo album. It was mediocre. I heard him on Wu-Tang ish, and cat had it on lock. I just feel that he can not really hold it down on his own. Worth it for beats alone, but see if you can sub someone else's verses in his place, if you can. I did, and it sounds dope. DEFINITELY do not listen to his compilation Stranglas. STRAIGHT UP GARBAGE.

A better artist is King Just, and my personal favorite is La the Darkman.

Free Music Review: THE BEATS ARE THE LET DOWN
Hit: 3 Stars

ive only sampled a few tracks but the beats are weak, if you think u-god is wack and doesnt rhyme you must be insane or just plane dumb, just listen he ryhems alot.
