U2,having gone thrpugh complicated steps in their creation as a band of the eighties, finds their home, not in the white purity of the Joshua Tree but in the neo-selfishness of technobabble. Opening with the drowning beat of "Zoo Station", Bono tells of a man who has no home, who is running and forgot what he was running from or what he was running to. When the band was chastised for the egotism of Rattle and Hum, they had no place to go with their music styles--they wanted to make the music higher and higher, a desire to reach for a God that apparently, wasn't listening. And since they couldn't take the music higher, they went lower, into the voice of the young and condemned, the sounds of those whomust move to stay alive... Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Achtung, Baby
