Free Music Notes for All That You Can't Leave Behind

Free Music Review: Back to basics but still very good
Hit: 4 Stars

Rolling Stone Magazine calls this album "U2's third masterpeice" and I agree completely!

What makes this album great you ask? Well, despite the fact U2 decided to take a back to the baics, plain Rock and Roll approach to this album, the music sounds unique, new, and fresh! Personally, I don't think that this album sounds anything like any of their previous discs, although I know some people disagree with me on that point.

The album starts out with "Beautiful day" a truly perfect way to open the record. This song (especially the chorus) is so full of life and excitement. To quote Bono himself, "It's a song about a man who's lost his ticket to the seventh game of the world series, but is happy and excited nevertheless." The song has some fine guitar work from our friend The Edge and Bono's lyrics are interesting and full of irony.

"Stuck in A Moment" is not my favorite cut. It sounds as if Bono is struggling to keep in time. maybe it's just me.

"Elevation" is pure Rock and Roll excitement. The Edge just rocks the house on this one. I swear it was designed to make 70.000 people in a stadium go crazy. Bono's "whooo hoooo" on the chorus makes you want to jump up and down. I must add too that Adam clayton and Larry Mullen...bass guitar and drums sound really good on almost all tracks on this album.

"Walk on" and "Kite" give the album some depth. These songs do a good job of exploring the destiny of man. "Who's to say where the wind will take you, who's to say what it is will break you, I don't know which way the wind will blow." Deep stuff! I love it.

"Peace on earth" is a beautiful tribute to all those who have ever lost a loved one to war. The tempo and pace of the music fit the theme perfectly. Simply beautiful!

"When I look at thr world" has some great soaring guitar. This song talks about how we sometimes can't see the world in the same way that others do. Perhaps Bono is comparing himself to his late father?

"Grace" is another beautiful song. It ends the album and gives the listener hope in the grace of God which can turn sinful, stained, and imperfect human beings into something beautiful!

All all, a great work of music. It sold 12,000,000 copies world wide and I recommend you check it out.

"Peace on earth" y "When I look at the world", tienen mensajes sociales, pero musicalmente pobres, sin duda los temas mas flojos. "New York", uno de los mejores temas del disco, con una atmosfera electronica y en el intermedio una parte muy rockera. Al final "Grace", un tema lento que algunos momentos funciona y en otra, no tanto.

Resultado, es un disco bueno, quizas mas entendible y facil de escuchar que "Zooropa" y "Pop", pero tampoco se puede decir que es uno de sus mejores discos, como han dicho por ahi, no esta a la altura de "The Joshua tree" y "Achtung baby", pero es muy efectivo.

Free Music Review: Back from the horrible 1990s
Hit: 4 Stars

U2 is probably the most important rock band of the past 25 years. Very political without pointing fingers, very spiritual without being condemning or preachy, and most important, very optimistic. Ironically, their love of Americans also makes them the most patriotic rock band, without even being U.S. citizens. However, their music and message waned and became confusing during the 1990s after their watershed album "The Joshua Tree" and the follow-up "Rattle and Hum" which showed perfection of the sound and message they were striving for since "October"
When they released "Actung Baby" after a very long Joshua Tree tour, they were looking to Europe and the dance clubs for the sound, and romantic love instead of brotherly love for the message. They couldn't pull it off, in my opinion, and "Zooropa" was even worse.
However, that was then, and this is now. "All That You Can't Leave Behind" is just that-a statement saying that they can't turn away from their roots and message. The songs "Grace" and "New York" show great lyrics and musicianship. Just two of the great examples of why this album is terrific.
U2 made a huge 180 degree turn with this album, and the follow up "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" (Album of the year)are must haves for your collection. I gave "All That You Can't Leave Behind" four stars instead of five, for "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" proved that they are just going to be better and better if they stay with the philosophies and sounds that brought them world acclaim, respect and devotion that U2 fans have given them.

Free Music Review: Warming up their Vegas Act
Hit: 2 Stars

I think that once a band has decided they must be the biggest band in the world, you can cue the engineer to start a loop machine in the studio - all they'll be doing is feeding us watered down versions of what once was. That's this album, with the exception of track 9, gorgeous. What a soaring guitar riff, and beautiful lyrics. The rest is like an open jar of peanut butter left out in the rain for a month.

U2 is a once-glorious band, in the throes of a miserable middle age crisis that continues today - 40 something guys making love to their 20 something talent. It doesn't sound pretty.

Maybe, someone not kissing their a*&%s in their circle will tell them to either boldly experiment with new sounds (as they once amazingly did), break up, or just become the live-in Apple house band for corporate functions - evidently these guys need more money, for an eleventh house. I'm waiting for them to start their own clothing label, and maybe a U2 cologne, For That True Rock Fragrance in U 2!

If there's another album, maybe they can call it Dismantling Even More Atomic Bombs That We Can't Leave Behind.

Free Music Review: Impressive!
Hit: 5 Stars

For me (and according to Bono, "our third best album may be 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' or 'All That YoU Can't Leave Behind'"), this album is one of their best. It's very well done, with great songs and still keeping their style from all the years... I got this CD like 3 years ago and I still listen to it almost every day. My personal favorite songs are "Kite", "Walk On", "Wild Honey" and "Elevation". It is very recommended for all the people who are starting liking U2
