Free Music Review: Amazing U2 edition for Everybody
Hit: 5 Stars

It was worth waiting the whole month to get this package, and my heart was over beaten when I got my hands on it. It is a black box in whole reminding some kind of the special "Bible". I've started with studying the book, it contains interesting remarks and comments about this record, and interesting stories around how it all was created. An interesting fact to know what a big smoker Flood was when making this awesome sound. Further I've watched the DVD, I am not sure a "rare" version of "With Or Without You" video is not just a version which was created recently for the die-hard fans and the snippets used there were not actually taken from the original shooting of the well-known version... However it's special. The same special is the concert in Paris; I was laughing when Bono was caught by that big fat guy; and also when he stopped the "WOWY" song just because he disliked what was appearing before the scene. Original Audio CD patronaged by The Edge via Pro Tools now is much bigger pleasure to listen as their previous studio version; and the Bonus Audio CD full of the best B-sides I've ever heard from U2 is of course worth listening not just the one time.

It is the favorite albums of all times for me... What could I say? The package impressed me a lot! It's definitely worth of $50 since it's not only a pleasure to have it by a U2 fan, but probably a great gift for any good listener who understands the music.

Free Music Review: For the Serious U2 Fan
Hit: 5 Stars

If your keen on seeing the nitty gritty the ins and outs of U2 in their "glory days" then this is for you. The remastered CD is simply easy on the ears. And the B side songs well they are just that; B Side songs. There are some moments of glory but B sides are called that for a reason, but U2's B sides would put Coldplay to shame.
So you need to be a dedicated fan to appectiate this product. However the gem of it all is to see Bono in his youth; his confidence that he exubes as a rock star knowing that whatever he does, suceed or fail, he will be looked upon with admiration by his audience. And as part of his character you see the creedo "with great power comes great responsibility" come to light. This is shown vividly in the DVD when he stops the vand at possibly their greatest musical moment for the safety and well being of some audience members.
This charater who is human, exudes not God like character, but the inner strength of a man who cares more for others than his self glory or worship.
I'm glad Bono has gone on to spend his celebrity status for the sake of others. This DVD gives a glimpse of U2 and shows that they are simply shy humans, almost embarassed by their sucess, searching for strength. So enjoy the fun and feel their strength as a band and enjoy heraing and watching the band in their prime.

Free Music Review: HUGE improvement
Hit: 5 Stars

I am not going to get into a review of the music on "The Joshua Tree" because, quite frankly, if you are looking at the remastered version and have not been living on an island the past 20 years, you should already know all you need to know about the musical content of this album.

I will also preface this review by saying I have heard this album in many formats - LP, cassette, original pressing 1987 CD and a later mid-90's issue CD which had slightly different packaging but no noticeable sound improvement.

There is NO doubt that the remastered version of this CD is far, far superior. I did buy the "Super Deluxe" version of this re-issue, but I have no idea what to tell you about the bonus CD or DVD as I have not listened/watched to either of those. However, as for the CD proper, this is a far richer and sonically improved album; it's really like discovering "The Joshua Tree" all over again.

Whichever version of the remastered CD you buy, I promise you that you will be very pleased. If you are pressed for cash, just get the single disc CD. There is no reason to listen to one more second of the old, tinny, flat, poor quality previous master of this CD.

Now... if only we could get remastered versions of War, The Unforgettable Fire and Achtung Baby...

Free Music Review: Joshua Tree Masterfully Remastered
Hit: 5 Stars

As with just about every special edition from U2, the quality starts with the packaging. Quality materials, tastefully presented, with real feeling of durability and craftsmanship.
The contents were everything I expected them to be. To be honest, the actual Joshua Tree CD didn't sound especially different, but there are some nice changes that fans will appreciate. The bonus "Live From Paris" DVD is outstanding! Amazing picture quality, and some of their great old tunes in an excellent live performance. There is also the info book, again, solidly bound, good pictures, and plenty of insight for fans. The bonus audio CD is a really good collection of some of their harder to find tracks and some odd stuff. Not much of their mainstream sound, but For me it was good to have some of it in my collection at last.
Finally, there are the amazing prints from the photography for the album it looks like. They come in their own really nice embossed envelope, printed on nice thick card. Great images, and definitely worth having framed and displayed somewhere prominent.
All in all, 100% satisfied. U2 always make sure their merchandise is good quality, and worth the money, and this certainly doesn't disappoint.
Definitely recommended.

Free Music Review: Worth it
Hit: 5 Stars

Kudos to Amazon-ians for focusing on what really matters about this set: The sonic quality. I own the original CD-singles on which many of the B-Sides were released, as well as the I-Tunes "digital box" set, and I can confirm that both the album AND the "rarities" are vastly improved. Those of you on the fence about the "remaster" upgrade probably know that most of the JOSHUA TREE starts so low that you need to crank your car stereo to hear the nuances and beauty of the intros... But by the time the song is up to its 2nd chorus, you're nearly going deaf. Having to play intermediate mixer was always an annoying distraction to the experience that is the "JOSHUA TREE," and fortunately that issue was addressed straight out on this release. From the gentle opening bars of "With or Without You" to its passionate crescendo, you won't have to touch the volume.

As for the DVD, it's a duller version of Rattle and Hum... and should not be perceived as anything other than a mild bonus. It is the booklet that should be incentive for buying this set... It is beautifully realized and adds some insight to the process of recording that even their opus book "U2 by U2" failed to cover. Even without the DVD, it's worth the price.
