Free Music Review: Still The Best After All These Years!
Hit: 5 Stars

I expected a bigger box. I expected a bigger book (dimensions).
But, I was not dissapointed at all. It is better than I expected. Well worth every penny and more! I wasn't even a teenager when this album came out, but as years have gone by, this album has become my favorite! This collection comes with the original cd of course. It's remastered and sounds better than ever!! Then there's the bonus CD. Songs I've heard, but never truly appreciated, until now. Knowing they come from the Joshua days makes them special to me now. Then the DVD. I own everything U2 has released, and I am always excited to get new live footage. This footage is from the Joshua tour, and since I wasn't lucky enough to see them live in those days, it gives me a small taste. The concert footage doesn't include Where The Streets Have No Name, so thats my only gripe. If you are a hardcore fan like me, you have to have this collection! If you aren't, I would still recommend this, or one of the other versions of this re-release. I don't buy a lot of music on CD anymore, but this was a must have for me, and it has definately proven once again why they are the biggest, and most enduring band of my time.

Free Music Review: DVD is worth all the money, but remastered CD works well too
Hit: 5 Stars

The Joshua Tree is indeed a U2 classic, a must for all the fans. However, if you think about buying this new remastered version, please make sure you buy the Super Deluxe Edition with DVD. The concert in Paris on this DVD is worth all the money. In fact I was surprised by the sonic quality of recording of the concert and I also liked the atmosphere of the DVD a lot. It is now my third most favourite U2 DVD after exciting Elevation Tours concerts in Boston and Slane Castle. I wonder if there is more concerts like this being shot and not released, because if so, I would definitely like to have them too!

However, DVD is not the only thing. I enjoyed remastered version of CD and thought that also B-sides were quite extensive and enjoyable. And the whole box of the materials, the book, sleeves for CDs and postcards were just well done and make it a definitive gift item. I wish that also Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind would receive similar treatment later on.

In the age of downloading of songs from internet, this is a way to go: making a hard copy of CD a real experience. Than this is even better than a real thing!

Free Music Review: The Right Way to Remaster
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Joshua Tree" is a classic album that deserved a "classic" remastering job. The original CD release had a muddied, booming bass sound with a lack of high end, muting Edge's sparkling upper scale notes. The Mobile Fidelity release erased these flaws, and showcased what a wonderful recording this is. Unfortunately, Mobile Fidelity's edition is now out of print and out of reach for most folks. This new edition is nearly it's equal, and can be had for a reasonable price. However, I strongly recommend spending the extra money and and getting the Super Deluxe Edition. The concert DVD is great, the documentary is relatively interesting, and the bonus tracks sparkle as brightly as the original album does. The enclosed photos are strictly nonessential. I have previously applauded the reissue of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run", which has some similarities to what U2 has done here, but there is an important difference. Springsteen did not offer the option of choosing a less expensive edition; it was either the big price tag or nothing. U2 has done the right thing by their fans, and allowed "The Joshua Tree" to bloom magnificently once again.

Free Music Review: Awesome! Worth It for the Paris Concert Alone
Hit: 5 Stars

By far the biggest find in all this is the Paris concert for that tour. Prior to this, the only footage of the Joshua Tree tour is what you see in Rattle & Hum.

The concert is them riding high on that album and their newfound status as biggest band in the world. For the first time ever you seen on DVD live versions of "Trip Through Your Wires" and "Unforgettable Fire." Both sound great, as does most everything else. The staging is simple and direct (before all the spectacle of Zoo TV and Popmart), and the sound is GREAT.

The remastered CD sounds pretty much the same; with a bit more kick, a bit more low-end and you can hear certain ringtones from Larry's snare that you couldn't before.

Also cool are the enclosed photos from the Joshua Tree cover shoot, which just beg to be framed and hung somewhere in the house. The booklet contains the band's observations on this album and what inspired it.

Even if you own almost every U2 thing--and I do--this was yet a new revelation and not the usual repackaging-with-a-bonus-song that most reissues are. Well worth it.

Free Music Review: Awesome sound. Great for the Video alone
Hit: 5 Stars

I am somewhat hesitant about writing a review for this cd, because to me, this is when U2 went BIG TIME, and they weren't the small Irish band anymore that people like me loved. Their first 4 cd's all had that distinct sound and this started to vary away from that sound.

After buying this version, I was reminded of how great this album truly is. I would put this up there with the top 100 albums of all time ( along with the first four ). The sound is clearer and the video alone,
( the real reason I bought this version ), are incredible.

Remasters are usually a marketing ploy as far as I am concerned, with people not hearing much if any differance. The new Genesis remasters are
ASTOUNDING, and I put this with them. A differance you can hear!!!!

I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of U2 and their early works.
check out the upcoming remasters of the first three U2 cd's and you will be pleasently surprised, as I am sure I will.
