Free Music Notes for Joshua Tree (Remastered / Expanded) (Super Deluxe Edition) (2CD/DVD)

Free Music Review: They were so young!!
Hit: 4 Stars

Being a relatively new U2 fan, that is only for the last 10 years or so, I'm still amazed at how young the band looks in this video and others from the same time. (But I guess we all looked a lot younger 20 years ago, didn't we??!!) Their music is so complex for some so young, I think.
I didn't realize that this DVD is more like a movie/documentary. It's good to see, just unexpected. It does contain lots of concert footage, however, which is very enjoyable.
The bonus CD contains a lot of B sides and take some getting used to. Some of the songs are definitely not my favorites, yet anyway.
The remastered Joshua Tree CD is great.
All in all, a great addition to a U2 collection.

Free Music Review: Audiophiles Need Not Apply
Hit: 2 Stars

The compression/over-processing scourge has struck once more! This new remaster is intended for the mp3 crowd. If you fall into that category - you'll like it just fine. If you're an audiophile looking to upgrade your old copy - forget it. The old version is better. The record companies are selling fewer CD's, and they're alienating the few good customers they have left. I buy hundreds of CD's every year, but that will change if I keep getting screwed. Are you listening record companies? Sell your compressed/over-processed audio to the ipod crowd through downloads. If you want to keep selling CD's, you'd better get your act together.

Free Music Review: Great Package and Remasterization Work
Hit: 5 Stars

As an U2 fan I am very pleasead with the remastered Joshua Tree and all the new material included on this deluxe edition. As I used to have a Joshua Tree CD bought 18 years ago I could compare the good improovement in the sound quality. For U2 fans it is a must have and for those who are not it is a great oportunity to start.

Free Music Review: The Right Way to Remaster
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Joshua Tree" is a classic album that deserved a "classic" remastering job. The original CD release had a muddied, booming bass sound with a lack of high end, muting Edge's sparkling upper scale notes. The Mobile Fidelity release erased these flaws, and showcased what a wonderful recording this is. Unfortunately, Mobile Fidelity's edition is now out of print and out of reach for most folks. This new edition is nearly it's equal, and can be had for a reasonable price. However, I strongly recommend spending the extra money and and getting the Super Deluxe Edition. The concert DVD is great, the documentary is relatively interesting, and the bonus tracks sparkle as brightly as the original album does. The enclosed photos are strictly nonessential. I have previously applauded the reissue of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run", which has some similarities to what U2 has done here, but there is an important difference. Springsteen did not offer the option of choosing a less expensive edition; it was either the big price tag or nothing. U2 has done the right thing by their fans, and allowed "The Joshua Tree" to bloom magnificently once again.
