This album is amazing. Very well could be their fourth masterpiece, after Achtung, Joshua Tree, and ATYCLB. What I found even more amazing about this album is that with every new U2 album it takes a few listens before it grows on you. Not so w/ NLOH. Starting with the first 2 songs the album kicks into high gear immediately. "Magnificent" might be their best song ever. Certainly one of their most spiritual. I can already tell this song will be the highlight of the concert. May I suggest playing this song last? Another reason this album is brilliant is because this time U2 mixed everything in. Some have described it as another "Unforgettable Fire." However, it has bits and pieces of everything U2 has ever done like the slide guitar in Magnificent. Sounds exactly like "Gloria." Which is not a bad thing at all. Some of the slower songs remind me of "Passengers" and "Zooropa." After 30 years of being together I honestly did not think any band including U2 would have been able to record an album of this caliber. Leave it to them to prove me wrong!
Free Music Review: Instant Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Awesome new effort by U2. Once again, the Irish quartet reminds us why they have such staying power, and how the simplest melodies and riffs make for unforgettable anthems. A little combination of the song writing style of "How to Dismantle..." and "All That You Left Behind", with the out-of-the-box production of "Achtung Baby." Some personal highlights - "Magnificent"; Loved it instantly, continue to love it, always will. The quintessential U2 sound. "Breathe"; great powerful riffs from The Edge, nice piano sounds with the seemingly chaotic, yet structured vocals from Bono. "White as Snow"; took a few weeks to accept this one. Slow, very traditional, dark Celtic feel. Grew on me. "Unknown Caller"; reminiscent of classics, like "An Cat Dubh", lots of dynamics. Bottom Line: A. Can't wait to hear the new material live in September on tour.

I still lean towards Achtung Baby as my favorite U2 album but this one has some songs on it that are taking my breath away. "Magnificent" for one. Personally, I think "Magnificent" is the best song they've come out with since "One". I'm also rather attached to "Breathe" and "Stand Up Comedy". I've only gotten through the album twice now and those are my 3 favorites so far. As with all U2 albums, the more I listen, the more I like but those 3 songs, I liked within the open minute. "Get On Your Boots" has worn on me and I like it more after hearing it several times than the first take. In other words, I'm impressed. I'm not even slightly disappointed. As far as I am concerned, the boys from the north side of Dublin remain relevant and continue to set the bar high for those making intelligent, thought provoking, serious music.
Free Music Review: Amazing Yet Different. Hit: 5 Stars
If you are hoping that U2 has gone back to their Joshua Tree days then you haven't been listening to U2 over the years. U2 has always been about change they have never really stayed in the same place their whole carrier. They do what they feel is passionet, and meaningful to them hoping that us as the listeners will feel the same. This album is Amazing! It does sound different, but you can really feel the passion that was put into it. U2 once again has made a classic album, I love it from track one to track eleven. I totally recommend buying it!
Free Music Review: Best U2 Album Hit: 5 Stars
I don't rate very often, if ever. I have been a U2 fan since I was a kid. I have seen them in concert many many times. My favorite album was Joshua Tree...until now. This album, IMHO, is there best work EVER! I'm not so partial to Boots, but the rest are heartstopping for me. Take my review for what it's worth...it's free, but I just can't stop listening to it. Fez and Cedars are my favorites, but by a thin margin because each song is so amazing.
I'm not religious, but thank God we have U2 in these depressing times.
