Free Music Notes for No Line on the Horizon (Limited Box Set including CD, Film, Hardcover Book, Poster)Free Music Review: Trees of Lebanon... what about the wasted trees of Brazil that went into making this thing? Hit: 2 Stars
I am not impressed with this offering. The packaging is sloppy. The box is simply too big and feels empty overall. Lots of paper waste from a band who you would think might be sensitive to wanting to protect trees, especially when you consider they wrote a song about the Trees of Lebanon.
I understand that there is a poster in there, there is a CD and there is a DVD, but the poster while a nice addition, it just seems to be a waste, and the huge box required to contain it, also seems a waste. It's just awkward, and useless. I wish now I would have saved a few bucks and opted for the deluxe CD instead.
As for the DVD, if you are a die hard care U2 fan like me, or you are stoned you'll probably enjoy it once. I love U2's music, and I am a long time fan, I'm a sucker when it comes to U2 and am the type to be the first in line to see their shows, buy their latest albums, and I even bought that U2 ipod a while back, but this is the first time I really felt I wasted my money.
The comments here are really directed at the box set, more than the music on this latest CD. Not a bad U2 release, I am still trying to get beyond the weird chorus in "get on your boots", I suppose it will grow on me in time. Overall... Eh, it's not bad.
A for this Limited Edition Box Set, I think they could have done a better job on the packaging overall.
Free Music Review: I am a HUGE U2 fan, but... Hit: 2 Stars
...NLOTH is a huge disappointment. Even the boys (okay, Gods) from Dublin are entitled to a weak album, and this is it. I'm immensely relieved that my opinion seems to represent the minority, but my opinion is that this album feels like a "Passengers" outing or another offering of B-sides. People keep comparing it to "The Unforgettable Fire" and I think that comparison is valid...except that TUF had "Pride" and "Bad" - songs that were immediately resonant, and have remained relevant ever since. Every single U2 album (even the widely panned "Pop" and "Zooropa") offers at least two songs that you can't help but listen to over and over and over again, and these songs help to rescue the risky stuff by putting it in context. This album lacks such a track. Credit the boys for continuing their sonic experimentation, and don't get me wrong: there is some good stuff to groove to here; but it's the kind of ambient stuff I might play as background music while having a conversation with somebody. U2 has always been musically COMPELLING, and I just can't say that about this offering. I'm hoping the follow-up they are rumored to be releasing this fall will offer more of their "standard" formula: music that instantly grabs you, but remains artistically relevant.
Free Music Review: U2 no line on the Horizon Hit: 2 Stars
Great album . But the extra money for the dvd and book is definitely not good value. The dvd is as interesting as paint as is the book . ONLY FOR COLLECTORS.
Free Music Review: Weak album from U2 Hit: 1 Stars
Simpy dissapoint, the only tracks that rescue the album from the ground are three.
1-Magnificent
2-Stand Up Comedy, and
3-Breathe
I think, it's time to change the producers Eno and Lanois. Their work is worse.
Free Music Review: Love NLOTH, but not this "limited edition" Hit: 1 Stars
I sure don't think the limited edition was worth the extra expense and packaging. Didn't watch the DVD, but the poster and book were underwhelming.
