Free Music Notes for U2 - The Best of 1990-2000Free Music Review: Missing songs, weak songs, unnecessary new songs... Hit: 2 StarsTo many song missing, instead we have some new song just to trick the fans into buying this CD. And lets face it, after Acthung Baby (excellent album!) the things aren't the same...
Free Music Review: I Like U2!! Hit: 3 StarsDON'T BUY FOREIGNER RECORDS. BUY MUSIC BY PINK FLOYD AND LED ZEPPELIN. DON'T BUY SUCKY MUSIC FROM LOVERBOY, AND ESPECIALLY FOREIGNER. ALSO, BUY LOW, SELL HIGH. I'M GLAD YOU READ MY REVIEW. IT TELLS SO MUCH ABOUT THE RECORD DOESNT IT MR ROHITRAO?
Free Music Review: Great compilation of their best songs. Hit: 5 StarsNot the hugest U2 fan but my love of them grew after listening to this album. A good mix of popular and those I've never heard.
Free Music Review: Almost unnecessary Hit: 3 StarsI'd rather give The Best of 1990-2000 three and a half stars, but as that option is unavailable, I'll round it down. There's no arguing that some of the songs here are absolute classics: "One," "Beautiful Day," and "Mysterious Ways" are just a few. But there are a number of reasons why this isn't the best way to get this material.
1) Unlike The Best of 1980-1990, here there's a lack of true artistic continuity. 1980-1990 covers the period of time when U2 made grand, political, self-righteous statements over evocative, fractured guitar work from the Edge. But here, there are songs that detail U2's exploration of throbbing club beats (a la Achtung Baby) as well as tracks that show how U2 rediscovered its 80's sound (think "Beautiful Day" and "Stuck in a Moment...").
2) This compilation makes the mistake of substituting remixes of songs like "Gone" and "Staring at the Sun." Sure, diehard fans might find these interesting, but they're inferior to the original versions.
3) It's missing a number of tracks that deserve to be here (for example, "The Fly," "Zoo Station," "Walk On," and "Peace On Earth").
Of course, there are reasons that this is still needed: it contains soundtrack songs, like the absolute killer "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me," with its brilliant T. Rex lifts, as well as a Passengers tune ("Miss Sarajevo"). If the problems had been rectified, this could've been as powerful a compilation as 1980-1990. As it stands, it's a highly flawed collection that is only redeemed by its rarities.
Free Music Review: U2 Compilation Hit: 5 StarsIf you like U2 and you need to conserve space and/or the number of CDs you maintain, this CD and its companion greatest hits are great. They have the selections you want to hear repeatedly already compiled for you. You do not have to rip selections from five CDs to create the one you want to enjoy over and over.
