Free Music Notes for U2 - The Best of 1990-2000Free Music Review: 5 Kinds of U2 Fans Hit: 4 StarsFrom my estimation, there seems to be 5 kinds of U2 fans:
1. Those who think they went downhill after War
2. Those who think they went downhill after The Joshua Tree
3. Those who think they went downhill after Achtung Baby
4. Those who think they went downhill after Pop
5. Those who think U2 have been consistently good from beginning to present.
If you're apart of groups 1 & 2, don't get this record.
'90-'00 covers albums Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop, apart of All That You Can't Leave Behind, some soundtrack songs, and one new song.
Achtung Baby-all of the usual suspects are here except The Fly; but that song isn't really good anyway, so I'm glad they left it off.
Zooropa-Where's Lemon? Numb is remixed but the original is better.
Pop-All of its songs have been remixed and the remixes are actually better, but I listen to the originals as well.
All That You Can't Leave Behind-first 2 singles are represented, Beautiful Day and Stuck in a Moment...Personally, I think they're pushing it by putting these songs on this album. They should have all been saved for the 2000-2010 collection (that's if they make enough music to get a third collection.)
The song Miss Sarajevo is from another album called Passengers.
Hold Me...and Hands That Built America are songs from soundtracks.
Electrical Storm is a new song.
Free Music Review: U2 ROCKS! Hit: 5 StarsJust can't get enough of it. Have listened to it over and over since I bought this CD, and as a proud fan of U2 will get their other albums too.
Free Music Review: Best Is Not There; Should Be A 5-Star Hit: 3 StarsThe best of 1990-2000 is not here. 16 songs in chronological order could have been:
1. Night And Day (1990): U2's only great remake foreshadowed the changes to come.
2. Until The End of the World (1990): Written for movie (of same name) prior to Achtung Baby. U2's most underated song.
3. The Fly (1991): The new U2 sound officially arrives.
4. Mysterious Ways (1991): Their first "pop" record of the 1990's.
5. One (1991)
6. Even Better Than The Real Thing (1991)
7. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (1991) - Acoustic version.
8. Numb (1993): Another new U2 sound.
9. Stay (1993): Great single from Zooropa.
10. Lemon (1993): A very different U2 song but it certainly takes you places.
11. Miss Sarajevo (1995): A true anthem - but the full version please.
12. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (1996)
13. Discotheque (1997): First POP single.
14. Staring At The Sun (1997): Another decent POP song.
15. Mofo (1997): The true sound of POP.
16. The Sweetest Thing (1998): The 1984 remake.
All the hits (Beautiful Day, Stuck In A Moment, Walk On and Elevation) from ATYCLB plus the Atomic Bomb hits go on the 2000-2010 Greatest Hits.
Free Music Review: Good but not the best Hit: 4 StarsI enjoyed this cd but not as much as the best of 1980-1990. Still great music from u2!
Free Music Review: One Decade Of Music Hit: 3 StarsThere is just so much going on in the world of music today. While there are so many acts that seem to be more like the feeling that they are just manufactured, and definitely not really showcasing a distinctive feeling of good. That is very unfortunate today. Nevertheless, that can be said to greatest hits records too. For U2, their Best Of 1980-1990 was a true definitive reflection of U2's legacy. Yet, the 1990's have also brought U2 to a equal worldwide captive feeling with their music and their videos. The big question is can this hits decade package be just as good as before.
U2's Best Of 1990-2000 is a compilation that showcases some highs and lows of U2's legacy throughout the 1990's. The album contains a lot of great tracks that have defined the men from Ireland well. The album does feature a lot of great hits like the definitive One, Mysterious Ways, Even Better Than The Real Thing, Stay, the Batman Forever track Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, and the Grammy-winning song & Record Of The Year for 2001, Beautiful Day. While there are just so many great tracks and highlights here, there also are a few disadvantages to this compilation. The album does overshadow some great U2 tracks like the Grammy-winning Walk On, Elevation, Lemon from Zooroopa and If God Will Send His Angels from the Nicholas Cage film City Of Angels. Not only that, the album features remixed editions of tracks like Discotechque from Pop instead of the original edition.
All in all, I was expecting a little more from U2 on The Best Of 1990-2000. It still happens to be a fairly conjured record, but I was just expecting a little bit more to come out of it. Hopefully, when U2 puts out their next hits package, there won't be anything overshadowed out of the blue. Nevertheless, it still isn't a bad record for die hard U2 fans.
