U2 - Best of 1990 -2000
During the 90s they reinevnted themselves each time they released an album, and rather brilliantly too.

But as for this album, well alot of unesseccary tracks and many important tracks are missed out as well.

The new versions of songs such as "Discotheque" and "Numb" are completely uneccessary. Apart from "Gone" which sounds alot more upbeat and rockier than the original of the "POP" album.

It takes away some of the chracter of the songs as well, only to a small extent though.
Heres how it should of been.

1. Even Better than the real thing........(from Actung Baby)
2. Mysterious Ways
3. One
4. The Fly
5. Until the End Of The World
6. Stay Faraway (So Close)..........(from Zoopropa)
7. Lemon
8. Numb
9. Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me.....(From "Batman Forever")
9. Discotheque............(from Pop)
10.Staring At The Sun
11.Last Night On earth
12. Please
13.Beautiful Day..........(From all that you can't leave behind)
14. Walk On
15. When I Look At The World (very underated and unkown song)
16. Kite
17.The Hands That Built America (new song)

Now what actual U2 fan could complain about that tracklist, its brilliant, and shows the best tracks from each album, and the actual best tracks. NBot stuff that was just popular to the masses...."stuck in a moment"????....its just awful.

I think U2 fans would of appreciated a more well rounded and more of a quality record than putting out a best of album suited to only "mainstream" tastes.

As for Electrical Storm, its just plain awful. Can I say much more?

Free Music Review: Could Have Been Better...
Hit: 3 Stars

As a hardcore U2 fan, I recognize that the 90's were an incredibly important time for U2. If it weren't for the extremely bold and uncomprimising music they released in this decade, we wouldn't be here discussing them today.

Having said that, this particular collection falls short of what it could have been. Nobody questions the quality of U2's output in the 90's (except for those that are too lazy to actually bother listening to 'Pop' and realize that it has some amazing music). With selections like "Mysterious Ways", "One", "Beautiful Day", amd "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)", you can't really have a terrible collection. The problem here are the appearance of some songs and the ommission of others. "The Fly", "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses", "Walk On", and "Elevation" belong here in the place of "The First Time", "The Hands That Built America", and "Miss Sarejevo". These songs are good, but shouldn't be on a 'best of.' Also, the re-working of the songs from 'Pop' is completely uneccessary; the versions from the actual album are far superior.

So for those that are curious about getting into U2 (and I know there are quite a few of you, because you constantly here about how legendary this band is and may not know why) you shouldn't be discouraged from listening to their music from this decade just because this collection is somewhat un-even - go out and buy or at least borrow the cd's from this extremely dynamic era of U2's career.

Free Music Review: Caters towards completists
Hit: 4 Stars

I think this compilation was aimed more towards completists than newcomers. If you're looking for a one-disc collection of hits, it doesn't work. There are too many songs missing. However, if you already own all of the albums like me, this is still a useful and interesting compilation, particularly if you have the "B-sides" disc (which is also, unfortunately, imperfect). "Electrical Storm" is a very strong effort, but I've heard a third version that is harder than either version included on this. I wish that one were included instead.

The new mixes of the "Pop' songs are so-so; I thought "Gone" outdid the original and the others probably didn't. And "The First Time" really should have been omitted.

Overall, though, i'm glad I own it.

Free Music Review: A Wonderful Addition
Hit: 5 Stars

The compilation disc spanning the years 1990 - 2000 is indeed a wonderful addition to the bands years of successfull albums. There are so many number one hits and so many songs that appeal to a broad range of fans, that it's entirely impossible to place all of the bands most cherished songs on one compilation. Part of the success of U2 is the ability of the band to appeal to so many people.

Fans may wonder where their favorite songs are, or think to themselves that they wouldn't have put certain ones on the compilation, but originally, the fan base was built on the artist's vision of what they thought music should be - their interpretation of music. These songs are significant to the band. There is a reason that each one appears on the disc. All of the selections are great pieces, and there are few bands to say that they are as successfull as U2.

I appreciate the artist's selections and take the disc as something that was intended to be shared with fans and enjoyed by all.

Free Music Review: Spoiled Best Of
Hit: 2 Stars

Like every U2 fan, I wonder why The Fly, Lemon, Please, Walk On and Elevation have been left behind... Oppositely to what have been said about Miss Sarajevo, I think this track is extremely moving and was a must have on this CD. But that isn't were U2 and the marketing team spoiled the CD. It's mostly on the remixes and second CD, of the Special Edition Best of.

I feel that the B-Sides represent the band, in another way, as much as the singles. And, beside what U2 think, they made great b-sides in the 90s that you can't find here!!! What about "Two shots of happy, one shot of sad", that most people will never hear? What about "Satellite of Love", "Night and Day" and the remix of "Who's Gonna Ride your Wild Horses"? Even the "Fortunate Son" and "Paint it Black" covers could have been put here, to see where U2 dig in the 90s... And having to suffer these horrible remixes of Numb, Lemon, Discotheque and If God Will Send his Angels is offensing the fans and any listener! And why didn't they put that live, very different and beautiful version of Sunday Bloody Sunday, sung by the Edge...

As a real fan, I have the singles and the cds... I shouldn't cry about these mistakes. But I thought that these songs could finally be heard and be appreciated by a larger crowd! And I felt that this CD could have more value, could be classified as a YOU NEED THIS ALBUM IN YOUR COLLECTION. But, with this spoiled version, it's not a must. I suggest you buy the normal, one cd version of the Best of, and even then, you wouldn't have a real Best of. I hope How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb will give me shivers, forgiving this commercial mistake!!!
