Free Music Notes for ZooropaFree Music Review: Why, Bono? Why? Hit: 1 StarsGross, Homer Simpson-level incompetence. Soulless dreck. Music that struggles and fails to be cutting-edge. You'd never think that U2 would make something like this, would you? Well, you were wrong, then - this represents their lowest low. Distorted, processed electrofunk is not U2's strong point, and you probably could tell that by listening to "Babyface" and "Numb" (with a vocodor! On a U2 song! Seriously! The Edge raps on it, too... urgh...). I mean, at least Achtung Baby had some really high highs, rather than awful imitation Prince fused with techno such as "Lemon" (which was somehow a charting single - when you're massively popular, you can get away with anything). The only song with organic elements, "Stay (Faraway, So Close)"!), is a pathetic flop with some of U2's worst lyrics. Said awful lyrics show up to plague "Some Days Are Better Than Others", which does have a fine bass groove going for it. It's the only song on this monstrosity I can tolerate for more than a half minute, and even then I have a hard time with the instrumental break. At least "The First Time" and "Dirty Day" have nothing to do with techno, even if I can't remember a thing about any of them. Oh, and did I mention the title track, less a song than an excuse to whip out as many headphone tricks as possible? Or the execrable Johnny Cash duet "Wanderer"? No? Wondering why? I hope not. This is the ultimate low for U2. Painful. Just painful.
Free Music Review: The other U2 Hit: 5 StarsListening to this album 14 years after it was realeased...it still sounds more modern and fresh than must of all current records. I have to say that back in 1993 I was dissapointed by the lack of more traditional guitar assault and anthemic songs à la Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree. But the minimalist arrengements the subtle keyboards, the restrained vocals are all amazing. This experimental side of U2 has often been neglected by fans and even by the band itself in favor of their arena rock side, but I think this sound is an integral part of their sound and their legacy, as very seldom artistis this popular experiment as freeley as U2 did in the 90`s whit such great results. Standout tracks: Stay, a perfect drunken 3 o`clock walking home song; The First Time, a littel gospel song in the middle of a sci fi record; Lemon, a geat pseudo dance song with amazing guitars and choruses; Zooropa (all three parts) and of course The Wanderer. This song is the sound of redemption at the apocalypse in the year 4349. In all, this is one of those rare albums that U2 did not try to make a collecton of singles, but a art pop mastepiece. Anaway, this records deserves to listen from 1 to 10, again and again and again....
Free Music Review: U2's Last Great Album Hit: 5 StarsIF YOU LIKE U2'S JANGLE ROCK OF THE 2000'S YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS CD.
Released in 1993, this was U2's seventh pure studio album and the band's nineth album overall. It is 50 minutes long and the sound quality is excellent.
In my opinion, U2's odd numbered albums are the best....Boy, War, Joshua Tree and Zooropa, before they went soft and mushy in 2000 with It's A Beautiful Day.
After the Rattle and Hum mess (it had some great songs, but was all over the place), U2 went a new direction with Achtung Baby, which included some experimentation. I don't think it went far enough, and though it had some great songs, there were many others that were just mediocre. With Zooropa, U2 carried along the same path, but took it farther. The result is a very interesting and engaging album. There is a lot of variety and nothing is boring. Although there is some mixture of styles, it isn't a jumbled mess like Rattle and Hum.
Zooropa was a prelude to Pop, which used some of the themes and overdid them (although it is still a good album). Pop was supposed to be the next big thing in music. After it failed to generate a new trend, U2 ended up conforming the to Jangle Pop sound of the 2000's with the next two albums. Instead of being innovators like on Zooropa, they have become followers.
Free Music Review: my love is cool Hit: 5 StarsI love this CD. It's a departure from what we became used to as their classic sound, but it's a solid move. The lyrics on this CD evolved to those of a far more personal nature, delving into relationships and egos, and the music seamlessly carries you through it all. Awesome CD.
Free Music Review: Information Overload Hit: 5 StarsJust an awesome album. One of the best of the last quarter century.
It comes the closest, in music and lyrics, to describing our post modern, media saturated world, and the humanity that created it, and that are enslaved by it, than any album has.
And the throw-away nature of it is the best part.
The least "purposeful" U2 album, and also the most important.
An unmatched classic.
It's that good.
