Free Music Review: ONE OF THE IMPREDICTIBLE RECORDS FROM U2
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the most alternative records from U2, with a real noise guitar and the spectacular voice of the band leader Bono.

It's a must in every CD Collection.

Free Music Review: Bono's Grammy speech said it best
Hit: 5 Stars

Remember when in early 1994, Bono strolled onto the Grammy stage and spat out his infamous spill of how U2 was going to keep on f*****g up the mainstream? Well they pretty much nailed it with this album.
The reason being is this: in 1993, grunge was at its height. Electronic and dance music had not been intigrated into the mainstream, even though it had a large following and was growing.
So enter U2, the arguably the world's biggest band and right right in the middle of possibly the biggest tour in world history. Instead of giving into what was hot in the moment, that being grunge, they went ahead and released this candy wrapper of a cd with a cosmonaut of a baby on the front.
I wish I could have seen the millions of faces that put this cd into their player and heard songs like "Numb", "DGTPFYCC" and "Lemon".
Honestly, I don't think the mainstream world was ready for what was hitting them at that moment. Not that U2 had invented this type of music and these sounds, but they what did was brought it into the living rooms of the mainstream listening world.
I honestly believe that this opened up the whole market for dance and electronic music. Yes, it might be a stretch to say that, but bands like NIN that had a massive underground before this in 1994 saw their success explode with "The Downward Spiral". From the mid 90's on, there was a massive opening for this type of music also. Combine this with "Passangers", I think U2 opened alot of doors for many bands like Radiohead.
While this album does have some weak points, one has to take into account that it was written and recorded during the middle of the tour!

Free Music Review: The kind of futuristic neon synth rock reality I really dig
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an inspiring and impressive album. One of the most creative albums the band has produced - well balanced and composed, mature, but still playful and ornate. The songs leave lots of room for the listener which is not so much the case with their latest stuff. It's truly daring in terms of the sonic palette they've used, so it's no wonder that some of the songs are seemingly jarring or unexpected on a first listen.

I would write something about how I don't think their new stuff is as good, but then I'd just be like every other U2 fan in the world. It's going to happen with bands that aren't content to stay in one place. Sometimes when I see Bono being a bit of a tit (a lovable tit) I get a bit embarrassed that U2 are one of my favourite bands. But then listening to an album like Zooropa reminds me why. So that's why I like it.

Free Music Review: Possibly U2's most underrated album
Hit: 4 Stars

First and foremost, do not start listening to U2 with this album. It's such a shock to listen to this album after hearing their most played work. Definitely listen to Achtung Baby before you listen to this album. It'll make more sense.
Beyond the disclamer, Zooropa is a very intriguing album. Much more mellow than Achtung Baby and almost as mellow as Joshua Tree, Zooropa captures a balance and a forward push at the same time. The sonic collages that permeate this album are at times gorgeous, at times disquieting. The title track opens with a sonic mish-mash, and then when Edge's guitar enters, the mood of the song and the rest of the album is set: atmospheric and mellow. The title track is almost progressive rock with it having three parts: the subtle cacophonic opener, the moody middle, and the anthemic closer. With the line "Uncertainty could be the guiding light," U2 prepares everyone for the soundscapes to follow. "Babyface" is a good song, but not the one that should have followed the title track. It's mellow to a fault. "Numb" would have been the perfect second track, sounding unlike any U2 song that had come before it, and still unique to this day. The Edge carries a monotone drone while his guitar is processed to death. With Larry Mullen and Bono carrying the haunting backing vocals, this song is an unusual U2 classic. "Lemon" is my favorite track on the album. Even though it hints at the focus of the next album Pop, this track is much more fun and even more intriguing than anything off that album. A German disco-laden song, "Lemon" screams irony, and Brian Eno jumps in with the band for vocals. If anything proves that Eno is a legendary producer, it's "Lemon." Following that is the best track on the album: "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)." A blatant love song influenced by Wim Wenders's movies Wings of Desire and Faraway, So Close, Bono sings about love in the Generation X, and the lyrics couldn't be any better. The rest of the album doesn't reach the heights of the first half, but the two closing songs, "Dirty Day" and "The Wanderer" with Johnny Cash, end the album on a high note. U2 would make their biggest blunder with Pop, but Zooropa, sandwiched between the classic Achtung Baby and the blunder Pop, is one of U2's lost gems. It may not be their best, but it can definitely be classified as a diamond in the rough. A recommended listen.

Free Music Review: My favorite U2
Hit: 5 Stars

...Vorsprung durch Technik. I love this album. Perfect in every way. I wish U2 would give us more of this and less of the watered down bore-fest they have produced as of late. I think sound of this album and Acthung Baby have more to do with the influence of Brian Eno than anything... they should work with him again.
