Free Music Notes for Anchor Drops AlbumFree Music Review: Umphrey's McGee loses face again! Hit: 2 Stars
For inexplicable reasons mealy mouthed vocals and noodling are the pillars of the current jam-band scene. Such acquired tastes have led to the isolation and inertia that Umphrey's McGee personifies. It was with great trepidation that I purchased Anchor Drops. I assume I am not the only one who noticed the churlish and sophomoric toilet related titles of many songs. A lack of musical focus manifested itself in this tedious exercise of self-stimulation and over-dubbed wah-wah. For Umphrey's to compete on a level field of play and expand their horizons to include those not christened in patchouli I have several suggestions. 1. Work on new songs not just rehashed concert favorites. 2. Rather than aspiring to be a pocket Grateful Dead drug cult they should explore festivals that do not include the word jam. 3. Remember that a good riff can be concise and catchy. 4. That an overwrought jam repeated continually does not make it memorable. I lost $15 on the deal. Umphrey's McGee lost face again!
