Free Music Review: The Nicola Tesla of Psychobilly!

The first time I ever saw Unknown was on a cable access program in Charlotte called Southern
Styles. He had a partner named Reb Helms, and they had a "talk" format where they covered
everything from politics, funding the supercollider, Aquadeer, painting with feces, and the
fine art of eating bologna, pork and beans, pickled eggs and sausage, and of course Viennas
(v-eye-eeners). And of course Unknown was in full costume and generally sucking on what looked
like a 12oz. glass of blood and soda crackers through a straw. And then there was his pistol, and
there was hardly an episode where somebody didn't get threatened, shot, or flat out killed, sometimes
in fake slo-mo!
Anyway, what a surprise when Unknown got up to sing "I Ain't Afraid of Yore Husband", after the
initial shock wore off I was laughing my arse off begging for more. Unfortunately Reb died just
as these two were about to make it big with a nationwide cable package and a movie deal. (Warning:
stay away from the chili at Loopie's Cafe in Charlotte). But Unknown just took his act on the
road and has been doing his own thing ever since.
I've seen this guy in concert 5 times and am always amazed at his prowess on the guitar, he's
incredible. But the songs an the lyrics are what packs em in, and this album is his finest hour.
Venus Bound is in a league all by itself, you can find that rare video on you_tube. If you watch
this without ROTFL then there's something seriously wrong with you. BTW, how he got his name?
Well he said he was named after his daddy and it says right there on his birth certificate...
"Momma-Shirlene, Daddy-Unknown" hahahaha
