Free Music Notes for Urban Cowboy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

I have always loved the movie as well as the soundtrack. I had originally owned the Urban Cowboy ST on album (vinyl) before the CD ever existed, along with Urban Cowboy II-More Music from the Soundtrack (Epic SE 36921). The second album, needless to say, is not available on CD. This album contains all the remaining tunes that were left out on the first album. Some songs are: CDB-Texas, Johnny Lee-Rode Hard and Put up Wet, A few Mickey Gilley Tunes, 9 tunes total. I wished Epic would release the second album on CD as this would make the Urban Cowboy Soundtrack complete. All-in-all, the Urban Cowboy ST is one of the best soundtracks ever.

Free Music Review: Great soundtrack that changed country music forever
Hit: 5 Stars

Whether you call this country music or not (some tracks are, some aren't), it's impact is undeniable. Pop country became fashionable. Traditional country did briefly fight back via the Judds, Ricky Skaggs, George Strait, Randy Travis and others, but then came Garth Brooks - and you can see the roots of his music in this soundtrack.

Of the first four tracks, three are uptempo rockers and the fourth is a rock ballad. After that, the songs have a definite country flavor. The only two that I would call real country are (surprisingly) the two Bonnie Raitt tracks. I love Bonnie's music, but I've never heard anything like these tracks on her own albums - and neither of them has yet appeared on a Bonnie compilation. Bonnie fans who like country music should buy this just for Darlin' and Don't it make you wanna dance.

Nearly all the songs were recorded especially for the soundtrack. Two obvious exceptions are Lyin' eyes and Devil went down to Georgia, but they are great songs and fit here well. Could I have this dance? is one of my favorite Anne Murray songs. It was not released on any of her original albums, but has appeared on some of her compilations. Love the world away is one of Kenny Rogers' best songs. I could go on .... I've never seen the movie, but this is a great soundtrack.

Free Music Review: Slow down, Editor!
Hit: 4 Stars

Excuse me, editor (BILL HOLDSHIP) you're review is not completely accurate! I will admit that the movie (which i happen to love) really did create a fad in pop culture in it's day, and most of the songs are not what you would call country, but there are some exceptions. You cannot listen to this soundtrack and say it is not country, there are some EXTREMELY country songs here. For example, "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" I know some would call this southern rock, but this song is a COUNTRY classic! And the other great song they contributed "Falling In Love For The Night", CLEARLY a country tune! "Cherokee Fiddle" another country song that is very well done. And Bonnie Raitt, who I know as well as the next person is not a true country girl, she's much better known for her rock music, but "Darlin" which is a song in which she sings amazingly,is a country song, as well as "Dont It Make You Wanna Dance", when she sings country, you know it's country! There are other songs that are not really worth listening to, I agree that some definaltey arent country, but come on, when you tell me to please not call Charlie Daniels country, i take that as a personal insult!

Free Music Review: Great, but incomplete and inconsistent
Hit: 4 Stars

This has long been a favorite movie of my wife and I.The problem I have with the soundtrack is the apparent omission of the film's title song by Charlie Daniels "Texas". That song immediately set the tone for this film, you were in a totally different environment and really felt like you were in that truck with Travolta. It's also hard to recall exactly where in the movie some of these songs appeared, and if they did they were buried so far in the sound mix of the film you never heard (or barely heard)them.

Free Music Review: One Of The Best Soundtracks Ever Made.
Hit: 5 Stars

This Is 1 Of The Soundtracks Ever Made. I Have This Movie At Home. It Features Charlie Daniels' "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", Johnny Lee's "Looking For Love" A Romantic Slow Dance Tune, And Mickey Gilley's "Stand By Me". This Is Great To Have.
